For college last year i started my degree course in animation and game art this invovles making aniamtions and games.
We were told what we needed and what programs we would be using these incluse maya and photoshop, my computer at home was now 5 years old and really not up to the job.
I went through a lot of different laptops until i came across this beauty on the dabs website, for only £1000 i got a pentium 4 mobile processor running at 3.2 GHZ (3200 MHZ). A 80 GB hard drive along with 512 DDR RAM and a ati radeon 9700 mobile 128 DDR RAM graphics card (maybe its 256 not to sure).
The laptop had a built in microphone dont know why that was important but it did impress me more, the screen is widescreen and gives you much more screen to view.
With a built in DVD RW as well it would be perfect for me to store all my data for college incase of an accidental crash.
The laptop as three USB ports which is very handy for you beacuse two are next to each other on one side and then on the back there is another USB port.
Im not to sure if there is a firewire port i can remeber the description saying so but im not sure what they look like, ive never had to use on lol.
Local LAN network card not to mention a wireless LAN card also built in a infra red port to send data over infra red, a 56K modem built in also.
Not to mention a card slot for say another wireless LAN card and a memroy card slot which most digital camera memory cards fit into.
There is an expansion slot for a floppy drive but to be honest this is not needed.
It comes with a good software selection like adobe photoshop elements and a good wireless LAN software which makes it easy to set up a wire less network.
The speed of the laptop is quite impressive i have never had any real trouble with it, it runs all my software and games with amazing effect.
Battery life and heat are its to main troubles the battery life doesnt last long for some of the programs i use, but thats because they are top end 3d modeling software, and the alptop does get hot after alot of use.
The keyboard is real nice i love it, the layout is very cool and though there is one major annoyance the num lock is above the back space and if you slip and hit it, some of the letters become numbers lol thats happened a few times.
The touch mouse is responsive and works well though i now use a USB mouse as they are far more better for the software and games i play.
The screen is a bit easy to damage i already have one major dead pixels because if a half witted sister and her finger, so you should be careful about the screen.
The weight of the laptop is another issue its not a light laptop it is quite heavy to carry around for long periods of time, and it uses windows xp home edition which is terrible in my opinion.
Some of my mates at college have other laptops like sony and packardbell and all of them are impressed woth my laptops speed.
Advantages: great graphics, films come out amazing Disadvantages: not very strong , do not face up to every day wear and tare..
...in a lot of the fujitsu laptops they all appear to get cracks on the top right hand corner of the screen and then progress to get one on the left also..
i had the computer for 2 weeks before the first crack became apparent, i just thought it was a mark and tried to clean it off with special wipes for the computer , then i realised it was a crack, it got worse and worse and now has a 1 mil gap between each bit of plastic....
around where the charger ... ...off, and the top of the computer got cracks in it too which are proceeding to spread as we speak.....
the inside of the computer may be good but the outside is really cheaply made, thin plastic and no use for anything...
if i dropped this computer on the floor it would prob smash into a million pieces , i had my computer for 3 months then started getting mega problems with the computer over heating and turning itself off, i dont know the reason ...

Quite powerful and capable with windows vista. RAM memory is upgradeable up to 2gb.
Big disappointment - battery runs out very quick, weight, overheating.

Advantages: The widescreen display makes for impressive DVD movie viewing Disadvantages: The battery life is not as long as some (1.5 hours or thereabouts)
This machine has replaced my desktop PC and has allowed me to get mobile. It's not the lightest of laptops by any means - some 2.5kg. And the battery life is not crash hot (around an hour-and-a-half is my best so far). But it unites seamlessly with my home wireless network thanks to the built-in wireless functionality which means I can sneak upstairs to do some work in the peace and quiet if the kids get too much! I find that the unit gets as hot ... ...true of all my Fujitsu-Siemens laptops so far. Some useful features come in this box: Memory Stick slot, PC Cardbus slot (I use this to host my Bluetooth PCMCIA card which allows me to access the internet through my mobile whilst on the move). Plenty of USB ports and a 4-pin Firewire port means that you can attach this device to most things. The cherry on the cake, the widescreen display which is excellent for DVD movies. For the money, I have been ...
