Known as "the Lagging Issue", the problem lies in the communication between the motherboard and the hard disk drive(s) in Fujitsu-Siemens laptops.
The problem is a defect in communication between the motherboard and the hard drive that causes stuttering so bad that CDs cannot be burned and even the clock cannot keep time. This component is installed on the motherboard manufactured by Uniwill and fitted into Fujitsu-Siemens PC Notebooks such as the Amilo M1437G, Amilo M3438G, and Amilo M4438G.
It is most noticeable when listening to MP3s or playing games.
I am glad that I no longer have this laptop. I eventually got my money back after I had numerous brand new replacements that all were immediately returned for serious manufacturer defects (very poor build quality). I also experienced the poor customer service, terrible repair attempts and more besides. It doesn't seem to matter if there are one or two hard drives, what does seem to matter is the speed of the hard drive the revs (rpm) -- the faster the spin the less the lag (but the defect is still there)!
Fujitsu-Siemens install hard drives from different manufacturers -- Seagate, Fujitsu, Samsung etc... but always the same Uniwill motherboard with the Via Raid controller.
Fujitsu-Siemens have been unable to find a solution, but through their customer's tests and trials, the problem has been identified and the solution requires a BIOS update.

Advantages: Solidly built; good performance; bright, clear screen. Excellent value for money as a balanced package. Disadvantages: No major ones. Case gets quite warm after moderate use.
The Fujitsu Amilo M1473G is a well-specified, well-built mid-range machine that will meet the needs of many people seeking a decent laptop at a decent price. This review does not cover usage as a gaming machine, but as a workhorse for office and imaging/design tasks.
The 15.4" screen is a crystal-brite model giving a bright, clear image which is ideal for imaging work - though as with all screens of this type it can be very reflective if positioned ... ...to show up more clearly than with the matte screen types. The resolution of 1200 x 800 is a nice balance of clarity and workspace - allowing the main window to be sized down a little and sub menus to be stacked to the side when using image processing and web design programs.
The machine has a feel of general solidity about it, which gives confidence to the user. The screen is well secured and nothing feels flimsy. The keyboard is light but positive ...
