The Trekstor USBstick2.0 is the 8GB memory stick version in this range. I actually didn't consider really the brand name as I had never really heard of Treakstor before and wasn't one hundred percent sure if they were reliable. However when I bought it in Currys last year and they had on offer many different memory capacities, ranging from 512Mb to 16Gb.
About It
Bascially 8GB can hold around 2,000 songs, 1,200-2,000 photos (depending on size of photos) and 4 hours of video. Of course this all depends of the sizes and quality but these are for the average person. This however was exactly what I needed as I wanted to carry photos, documents and songs. I was going to get the 2GB stick however I changed my mind as there wasn't much of a price difference so went for the bigger size.
Packaging
It had quite a lot of plastic ...
Advantages: Small and Discrete. Easy to install and use. 10m range. Disadvantages: Not as fast as a serial cable or infra-red.
This is a great piece of kit. I bought it so I could transfer files between my phone and computer, but it can be used with any bluetooth device such as a PDA or laptop.
The manual simply explains how to install the dongle and I installed it without any trouble in minutes. The dongle is USB1.1 compatable and is truely plug and play. You can disable the bluetooth connection in the dongle settings so you don't have to keep disconnecting the adapter from your PC if your worried about someone trying to connect to your computer.
Start using the product, just give your PC a name in the Bluetooth software and any bluetooth device will be able to detect it straight away. The easiest way to transfer files in my opinion is to right-click on a file and select "Send To > Bluetooth Device" You can even highlight multiple files and send them as ...
Advantages: 100m Range, Compact Design, Great Software Disadvantages: Price
regularly all the time the device is plugged in, slightly slower when a Bluetooth connection has been established.
In terms of general specification, it's a USB1.1 device adn there would be no benefit in USB2 as Bluetooth only spports transfer speeds of about 700Kb/sec. It is Bluetoothv1.1 compliant as well, which means it will interoperate with any other Bluetooth standard device. The other interesting thing is that this particular model is a "Class 1" bluetooth device, which means that it is capable of stronger signals than normal, providing connectiivty up to 100m away as opposed to the more usual 10m of a "Class 3" device. Of course you will need another Class 1 device on the other end if you actually want to make use of the 100m range, but it does give you the possibility. This increase in range does come at a cost. I paid £50 ...
