Fujitsu SCALEO P

I first got the Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P computer around one and a half years ago. At the time the computer was vary good and suitable for our needs, however since then technology has moved on somewhat.

EASE OF SETUP
I was not the person to set up this computer however the family member who had set it up commented that it was the hardest computer to set up that he had ever encountered. I have recently tried to restore the computer to it's factory setting however was unable to do so as the manual has no information on how to do so. All in all a very difficult computer to restore, however I have reason to believe that the eprson who set it up, who was not very good with computers used the operating system disk to install the operating system, despite it being preloaded, which needless to say makes thngs alot more difficult.

OPERATING SYSTEM
The Scaleo P operates on Windows XP home edition, which in today's world of vista is a little outdated, however I like the operating system as do many others I know, and would always reccomend it over vista home basic. If you have the chance, however I would use Vista Home Premium. The operating system is easy to use and performs well, however does have many bugs and despite it's age there is still another support pack due to elleviate the bugs.

STORAGE
The computer has 149GB of hard drive space, excluding that that the operating system and other preloaded software use. This is not great deal of storage compared to the majority of today's computers however for a family PC or a small home office PC it is plenty, and more than sufficient. There are 3 people using this computer in our house and we have not even used half of this.

Memory
The computer has 512mb of RAM and this is really insufficient in today's world. Many new computers now have 2GB of RAM, and in all honesty Vista needs this. Windows XP can function well on 1024mb or 1GB of RAM, however 512mb is not enough, particularly if you only have a single core processor and you want to do more than one thing at a time.

PROCESSOR
The processor for this computer is a single core Intel Celeron D. It is over 3Ghz fast however it runs very slowly when you try to run more than one programme at once, and often lags when even running just one pragramme. It is very unreliable and is just painfully slow. Recently I have got to the point wher I avoid using this computer at all, if I can get away with using my own laptop, which is much higher spec, the problem is I do not have it set up on a wireless network yet. The Intel Celeron D is definately one to be avoided, so stay clear of these if possible.

SOFTWARE INCLUDED
The computer has all of the stanard software included including microsoft works, paint, microsoft antispyware, as well as a free trial of microsoft office student and teacher 2003. Although this is not the full version, the full version can be baught for a reasonable price, and is very easy to use. Much better than the 2007 equivelent. The computer also has DVD and music players, as well as tools to improve the computer's performance, although these are hard to use, and very time consuming.

GRAPHICS
For a computer of it's age the Scaleo P's graphics are remarkable and the NVidia GeForce graphics card is very powerful and capable of producing very good graphics, the only complaint I hav is that the graphics card does take a great chunk out of the RAM.

CONCLUSION
I feel that the Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P is a below average PC with it's ups and downs, and is really suitable for only small computing tasks. I would not reccomend it generally, but it is better than nothing and it works (normally).
