I has always liked the idea of using reusable nappies instead of disposables but thought it would be too awkward, expensive and time consuming. I had looked about online at guides and shops but was overwhelmed and confused by all the information. Then, one of my friends (who had been using reusables for a while) talked me through all the different types and how it all worked.
When I realised all the benefits I decided that the pocket/stuffable type nappies sounded like the best option, they dry nice and quickly (a good idea if you don't want to have to buy loads) and were straightforward to use.
I looked about online and bought a small selection of pocket nappies from kittykins.co.uk. Out of the nappies I bought, Fuzzi Bunz is my favourite.
I own 3 (which is the amount I use in a day) of these nappies. They come in a lovely range of colours. I choose pink, yellow and lilac which are all very pretty. They also come in dark, bright or pastel colours.
They have a waterproof outer layer (PUL) and an inner layer of micro-fleece and are secured with poppers. There are three sets of poppers on each side so the nappy is very adjustable depending on the size of your baby and as your baby grows you can fasten them on a different set of poppers. I prefer poppers as they secure easily and are too tricky for my baby to open herself; there is also no worry of the velcro sticking to other things in the washing machine.
The two layers that make up the nappy are very thin with enough space to easily add stuffing. You can stuff the nappy with bought nappy boosters, terry squares or anything absorbent. I use a terry booster and two microfibre cloths which absorbs well enough to only need changing every 3-4 hours. It doesn't make the nappy bulky so I can still get trousers on my baby, whereas with some of the bulkier nappies she can only wear skirts and dresses.
The cost of these nappies is about £9.50 each plus the cost of whatever you use to stuff them with.
I have very rarely had a problem with her nappy leaking, despite the odd leak while i was figuring out how best to stuff them and how long she would have to wear them before she needed changing.
These nappies also come in a good range of sizes small (7-16lb), Medium(13-25lb), Petite toddler (18-29lb) and Large (20-35+lb)
