I bought the G2 because I was looking for a cheap graphics tablet to use for editing family photos, and dabbling with a bit of PC-Art. I didn't expect much from it, but I would rather have liked it if the claims about its compatability with WindowsNT were justified...
The main attraction to the G2 for me was that it is available with a serial port connection. This meant that I could use it with WindowsNT 4.0 - which is my preferred operating system. WindowsNT does not support the new USB interface, so a lot of other graphics tablets are incompatible.
However, I was to be disappointed by i) the poor quality driver, and ii) the lack of interest from Nisis' technical support team.
The driver software is flaky, to say the least. Within minutes of installing it, WindowsNT threw up the 'blue screen of death' - resulting in a frustrating reboot and then a 15 minute wait while check disk made sure my hard disk was still in one piece. I eventually narrowed the problem down to a conflict between the G2's driver and a WindowsNT service called (rather unimaginatively) 'serial'. Both were trying to claim exclusive use of the same serial port.
Luckily, my PC dual boots into Windows98 so I was able to use the G2 on that platform whilst I wrestled with the tech support team to get it working on WindowsNT. Only thing is, it just doesn't work on WindowsNT like they claim. I am still trying to resolve the problem - so if anyone else has used the G2 on WindowsNT - I would love to hear from you.
Summary: An excellent graphics tablet for home use, but it simply doesn't work on WindowsNT. Integrates well with most graphics editing packages, including Paint Shop Pro.
