You don't have to have that big holder that the IPAQ's have. The GPS antenna is built onto the back of the actual unit (it even ... ...up).
Unlike the other garmin products the unit takes a less expensive memory. Although you could argue that the Street Pilot III comes with enough already in the package if you get the deluxe version.
You can find points of interest such as petrol stations/shopping malls/restaurants etc at just the click of a button.
You can use the unit to store and playback your MP3 files. So no need to have another music player with you - ... more
Ok when i first saw this unit i was totally amazed. The first time i turned it on i was more amazed at just how clear the screen was.
Right the basics. The unit is a full PDA, address, calendar, reminders etc. The standard type of stuff you get on most PDA's.
But then....
This unit will also tell you where you are and how to get to just about anywhere you want to go.
At a snippet under £600 it's a bargain (there are catches - read on - but it's great).
Ok so what do you get? For the £590 you get The unit A usb/charger hotsync cradle European Mapsource cd rom
The catches? The unit comes with only 32mb on board memory. You can expand this with a standard secure digital card (SD) but really your going to want at least a 128mb memory card (around £50) that should get you most of the UK onto the unit at full road level detail. Also the battery life is around 10/11 hours in just PDA mode, which is ok. However turn the GPS function on and it's right down to 3/4 hours - even with battery saving mode. This means if you want to use the unit for car navigation you have to get the incar kit - complete with cigar charger/holder and external speaker. Another £50/£60 quid That puts the real cost around the £700 or so mark (and you still haven't got a case that's about another £20 - a bit of haggling might get that thrown in if your lucky).

Ok once you've loaded the software via you pc onto the unit you can put in a house number and road name (same as the garmin street pilot III - also see my review of that) and the unit will guide you right to the door with visual and audio directions. So no need to have another music player with you - although you would need to shell out on a bigger memory card to make this a realistic function.
How easy is the unit to use? Well once you've got the software onto the unit it's very simple. You simply click on GPS and go to the address search, the unit already knows where you are, so you select where you going (either on the map or via the data input - road/county etc) and the unit will select the most sensible route. If you need to go via somewhere just add that in and it will recalculate. Should you miss a turn or decide to stop of somewhere else it will also recalculate too. Again with the most sensible route.
What if i do have problems? As i said in my review of the street pilot III if you have any problems with any garmin products you always have their support team to hand. They really are second to non. They always know the answer straight away.
If i've missed anything off please leave a comment asking your questions and i'll try to answer as soon as i can below this point.
But i would recommend this unit to anyone who wants a PDA/MP3/GPS but to someone who wants just a GPS i'd still recommend the streetpilot III. This is due to the SP3 costing £650 all in. And the IQUE really costing around the £700 mark with the extra's. Plus the extra battery life seen on the SP3. But for range of features i don't think i can fault the IQUE. My personal choice? The IQUE.
Advantages: Good GPS integration, useful combination of functions Disadvantages: Very limited connectivity, low battery life.
The unit is very capable as GPS navigation. Also built in GPS functions are very useful. As a PDA this is now on the low end of the scale, as the connectivity is very limited. There is no Wi-fi or bluetooth capability built in. Also the SD card slot can't be used for Wi-fi or bluetooth SD card. Standard Palm OS 5.0 provides good overall performance. Another downside is a battery. Not only it's built-in and has to be changed by Garmin, but the capacity ... ...screen on bright, it may only last for little over an hour. There is third party battery extender available, which uses 4 AA batteries. This is very useful for hiking or any application without external power. I also used it successfully as a secondary navigation aid for an airplane. There is additional third party software available
Overall it's good as GPS with occasional use as simple PDA ...
