I must emphasise at the outset of this review that Revise the English and English Literature Anthology for AQA A is intended for pupils taking GCSEEnglish examinations, but only those who are studying the AQA Specification A as is clear from the title. (AQA is an examination board.) Pupils will be supplied by their schools with the AQAAnthology itself (Oxford University Press, ISBN 0198318812); the Anthology is not available in online or offline bookshops, but if you did need to obtain a copy, you might find one on Ebay.
Tony Childs' book is therefore intended to assist with revision of the Anthology, by taking the poems and short stories one by one and asking questions that will guide pupils in the understanding and analysis of the works. this book is just useful to the complete max. i don;t think there is a guide book for the anthology which is just as great.
for my gcses i decided to get cgp revision guides for absolutely every subject i took but i did think that the company was a bit overrated in many ways. the reason being is that many of their guides seem to miss out vital info but this is definitely an exception. there isn't anything they've missed out here apart from your own thought about the poems.
every poem is laid out on a different page with tha detailed analysis on a page beside it which is great whilst revising. the poem on the left hand side is anaysed in every word and so you begin to fully comprehend the poem and learn for yourself what the poems mean to you which is vital during the exams.

This is a workbook intended for students studying for AQAGCSEEnglish Language, Specification A. Although forming part of the Language syllabus, this is in fact a collection of poems from the AQAAnthology. They are all poems from different cultures or traditions and most are written by non-native speakers; some of the poems, such as 'Half-Caste', feature non-standard English. In total there are sixteen poems, and they are divided into Cluster 1 and Cluster 2, eight poems each.
