And a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery is included, as well as an SD/SDHC memory card slot, expandable up to an amazing 4 gigabytes. ...Having owned a G1 previously, the step to the G3 was not a "risk" for me.
I was drawn to the upgrade by the 4x zoom, the 4mp, the digic processor among other minor issues.
I have been generally pleased, however I have had corrupt file issues using a Crucial 4 GB card and a 2 GB Sandisk card. I have recently purchased a Kingston 4GB 45x to see if the higher speed helps it.
My impression vs. the G1 is that the camera is quicker to take pictures end to end. Not super-fast, but quicker. The flash on the G3 is excellent and usable for illumination or fill, in any situation without washout.
The dedicated battery is outstanding!!! I can shoot 2x as many pics on a battery at a wedding as my brother can with his D70, and my pics look better overall.
The swivel LCD is wonderful. If it were 2.5" & 200k res, it would be perfect.

...The Canon Powershot G1 is very small for the all the features they have crammed in.
Supplied with recharger, mains AC adapter, rechargeable Lithium Ion Battery, USB cable, Video Cable, 16MB Compact Flash card, 3x optical zoom, macro of 6cm and an F2 lens.
This camera has a full manual mode with most SLR functions although it is not an SLR. There is a Hot shoe on the top for the Canon Speedlite range only selective newer speedlite flashes though i.e. 220, 440 and 550 EX. The cameras resolution is 3.34 Mega Pixel with movie mode.
The thing about any Canon Digital they are built well and this is also solidly built and feels good too. Not to light and airy like some camera that feel like plastic and feel cheap.

...The camera is bulky to what I have been using 710 g (1lb.9oz), but the picture quality is good, Easy connection to computer via USB port. Good software MGI Photo v8.1&SE1.1, plus video wave 111 se. Being able to take night photos with night shot, the laser hologram auto focus, built in speaker & microphone. Movie MPEG, still jpeg, gif, (in clip motion) Tiff. Audio with sill image: MPEG (monaural). Sony memory stick, Carl Zeiss 5 x zoom lens. Pop up flash .can review photos via slide show, well for presentation s etc, via TV screen (AV cable supplied). You can add audio files to still images (voice).
The still image recording battery life with LCD 150 (min) approx or 2500 images,
And with finder 150(mins) 2500 images....
