I have tried so many different straightners and even though admittedly, this one ... ...temperature is below 8*C the GHD shuts down so as not to be damaged by internal condensation. What I'm thankful for is Sleep mode because I'm quite good at leaving my GHDs on by mistake, but these go to sleep if they haven't been used for 30min so you don't burn your house down.
On the other hand, if how practical it is isn't an issue and you just want to look good, then the rounder barrel makes creating waves and curls as easy as pie! These ... more

I have extremely thick wavy hair which normally takes about 30min to style but with these straightners i can achieve my perfect look in a maximum of 10min. You rarely have to re-do any sections. It has "Advanced ceramic plates" which is the ultimate styling surface for the smoothest static-free sheen. This edition also includes "Unique digital technology" meaning it has improved temperature control for better styling and stops your hair being destroyed. If you're quality conscious of your hair then this is the product for you, with minimal damage and a free thermal protector included (not forgetting the heat resistant mat and demo CD). It also has Universal voltage and shiver mode so when the room temperature is below 8*C the GHD shuts down so as not to be damaged by internal condensation. This new IV styler has additional features such as turning itself off if not used within 30minutes, it is also heats up more quicker then the old styler normally taking about 10seconds. I prefer this styler much more then my old one as its sleeker, more stylish and the fact that you can curl your hair easier and quicker due to the fact that the end of the barrel is more rounded. I tend to use the hair straighters everytime i blowdry my hair this ... ...a intensive conditioner at least once a week, plus i recommend using a heat defensive spray before you use the straighters, one thing that i would of expected from the new styler is the ability to change the heating level as i have fine hair that does not need such high settings as it is automatically set to. However it does leave my hair nicely straight and sleek. ...

Advantages: Can be used on long/short hair, has sleep mode, temp controls itself!! Disadvantages: none!!!
...before christmas my old faithful GHD straightners broke down on me! To be fair I have had them going on 5years now and hadnt realised I was doing so much damage by wrapping the cord around the straightners - hense why they broke! (although 5 years down the line!) So i treated my self to the new GHD IV straightners. I know people moan about the cost but i think they're well worth it! My friends buy cheaper models that breakdown and frazzle their hair, ... ...mode - for when your in the middle of doing your hair and get distracted (mainly by tv, moblie ringing or your other half asking where his football kit is!!) As for wrapping the cord around the straightners, i now have my GHD folding bag to tuck them away nicely! ...

I recently bought the newghdIV salon styler from ghdhair.com for £119.00. Normally i wouldn't spend so much but i have to say it was definately worth it!
You see I have long hair, and lots of it! I have used other straighteners which although have managed to make the top layer of my hair straight, they have never managed to straighten underneath. During my last haircut my hairdresser told me i have "bendy" hair. 'Charming!' I thought, but she was right. I never thought i'd find a straightner that could remove the 'kinks', but my newGHD works wonders.
The ghdIV salon styler also has wider plates. The product guide included. advises - 'Fantastic for very long, very thick hair, and hair that is coarse or very tightly curled. The size of the plates means you can style more hair, faster'.

but its simply fabulous after!! honestly I don't know why I put off buying these for soooo long, maybe as I had had bad experience with other straighteners in the past I gave up on heat straightening and went for the industrial stuff - permanent chemical straightening.
Yeah........so that was probably bad idea, as now my hair is chemically damamged and falling out like no mans business..while the results were to die for - silky smooth poker straight hair - everyday and no blow drying or heat styleing needed - the consequences have left me with a slightly baldy looking patch on one side of face/head and fraggile hair. Iv repeated this twice as I want anyone considering chemical straightening to think TWICE before committing to it.

I first bought a pair of GHD's 10 years ago and have had 3 pairs since then! I have to honestly say that it is the best money I have spent on products for my hair. My most recent pair (mk4) have been excellent so far.
The GHD's heat up in a matter of seconds and are so simple to use. I have long, quite thick wavy (frizzy!) hair which I clip up and straighten in sections. The whole process takes around 15 minutes and I am left with soft and glossy hair! I have also found that if i do it properly after blow drying I dont need to use them everyday as the effect normally lasts until my hair is washed.
