Without a shadow of a doubt and with no exception, ghd's are the ultimate hair straighteners ever. GHD standing for: 'Good hair day' are an innovative, well branded, and relatively new invention. Created in the year 2000, Ghd revolutionized the process of hair straightening. They are one step beyond when compared to the average hair straightener. Using a new technology, the heat which the ghd's posses is one of the keys to the ultimate success of these hair tongs. Ghd's are now a household name. They have replaced the old fashioned style of hair tongs, and they are quite simply the 'only' brand to own. Used, and sold in most hairdresser salons here in the UK, they are considered to be the best available by the styling professionals in the hair industry. I have the MK4 version of the straighteners which are slim and neat to hold. Weighing in at 1.7g they really are light in the hand. Being 10 inches long and 1 and a quarter inches wide they are easy to handle when straightening the hair. I find them quite comfortable, and not at all heavy, which makes for a
pleasurable styling experience all round. GHD's have made it chic and trendy to straighten your hair, in fact hair straightening is a must in the trendy youth culture of today, and these are their first choice from the multitude of straighteners available on the market. So you simply aren't 'in' if you don't own ghd's. They are a number 1 brand, used by the rich and famous. Many hair and beauty editors of major fashion and life style magazines have all bigged up the benefits of the ghd straightener here in the UK and also abroad. These straighteners have ceramic and tourmaline straightening plates, and they reach peak heat extremely quickly roughly 10 seconds I'd say. Which is great in the morning when you have limited time when getting ready for work. They also have a cut off function, in case you accidentally leave them on. So the safety aspect is catered for very well. When you use your ghd's your hair will remain straight until your next hair wash. I've never known a straightener leave my hair so straight, poker straight I'd say. They are truly amazing! The tourmaline straightening plates really protect the hair follicle, because they work by evenly distributing the heat through the hairs shaft. The actual straighteners are slim and easy to grip. They are well made and come complete with a very long lead, which is always very useful. They are a dark brown in color, but they also do a baby pink limited edition version of the straighteners, which are greatly in demand, being such a pretty, girly colour. The ghd's come beautifully boxed in a black and gold hard case. Contained within the box are the straighteners, a DVD which explains everything you need to now about the way to use the Ghd's, with useful tips on styling, two booklets, one containing the Ghd styling product range, and one with the safety instructions and manufacturers guarantee. The range of styling products are impressive and they all come contained in beautifully designed containers. I have a few of their products and they really do work very well in conjunction with the straighteners. The Ghd's work by destroying the hydrogen bonds within the hair follicle, so the hair will remain totally flat and ironed until the hair becomes wet again. Humidity can even be catered for as Ghd do a brilliant serum to counteract this. So no more frizzies or wavy hair when the scalp becomes hot and perspires. Your hair will stay sleek and straight until washed again. Ghd do complimentary products to use with your tongs and these are first class too. Check out their website for all ghd hair products. They also specialize in tongs for short and long hair, and a complete range of professional styling brushes, and hair products. In comparison I think there is none quite simply. Ghd have beat off all competition here in the UK, simply by their commitment to the quality of their product and they have produced a straightener that simply is the best. Now with anything that is of a good quality, these straighteners are not cheap. The ghd's can set you back anything up to £100.00, but I can tell you they are worth every penny as they actually do their job brilliantly.
Ghd's are excellent for anyone with a precision cut or layered hair as they show off the cut so much more than other straighteners. It is also very easy to create any look using these. Such as flick ups, and curls, and ringlets, which can be achieved very quickly with the intense heat the ghd's give out. Your style will stay put all day, or evening, with just a spritz of hairspay to hold it in place. It really is a lot of fun creating new styles with the straighteners. They can be used on wet or dry hair, and I would always recommend using a heat protection spray when using any product which will heat the hair. Ghd do their own Thermal protector which is very good if you wish to try it, and all products are on the ghd site, and in the booklet that comes with the straighteners. It really is a good idea to buy the heat pad when purchasing your ghd's, for placing the straighteners on when using, this will protect any surfaces that you may be using. An interesting action that the ghd's perform, is called 'Shiver mode'. If the room temperature falls to below 5ºC the straighteners will emit a warbling sound, and they will not operate when switched on. Do not attempt to use until the room temperature is back up to 5ºC. This feature is built in to protect your ghd's from the damage that could be caused to them by internal condensation.
I find the ghd's MK4 really easy to handle because of their slimness, and I can achieve brilliant results when styling with them. It is so easy to create any style, and because of the intense heat, and killing of the hydrogen bonds, my hair remains poker straight until my next hair wash. The only thing I must mention is that the straighteners do get extremely hot, so be very careful when straightening near the scalp, and watch your fingers don't touch the plates. I feel that although they are expensive, they are worth every penny, for the results they achieve. I have had lesser straighteners, and they don't come close. It's all about the quality really. You really do pay for what you get, and in the case of ghd's you really do get the very best that money can buy. GHD really have cornered the market in the straightener field, and if you haven't heard of them please do check them out. It's really nice to recommend something that I really believe in, and that I know really works! Basically I can't recommend them enough to you. -

Great review, just wondering if you have ever had any problems with yours? In my house we have had to go through 3 pairs in roughly two years because there seems to be a fault in them. Despite this, they do last a long time and i wouldn't ever consider using anything less than them! Sam xx
