PACKAGING AND DESIGN
When i got my most recent set of ghd's, i went to Peter Mark's hair salon a couple of weeks before last Christmas to get them. I was so happy at the thought of getting a new pair because my last ones had broken and i had to make do with "imposter" straighteners for a long time. I call them "imposter's" because they didn't work any where nearly as good and i missed my ghd's. When i got my ghd's they where in a very fancy black and gold box "which i remember" being rather heavy to carry around, in the fancy but small bag they give me them in.
Which was nowhere near big enough for the straighteners. Inside the box there where different compartments and in them was "two different" ghd spray's, one was in a small mainly gold coloured bottle. It was for heat protection and the other was in "a deep purple coloured bottle" and it was for holding hair in place,"similar to a hair spray." They both smelt very nice and did what they were meant to very well. There was also a small dvd and a book full of details about the straighteners. I was so pleased, and i didn't get them until Christmas because my mum got me them and she said that i "wasn't allowed" them until then.
I found the box quite tough to get into and "had to take scissors till it."In my anticipation" to get into it," i wound up wrecking the box entirely lol. Anyone buying these may have the same difficulties opening it but it just means the box was well packed, there is no faults and nothing wrong with it. These particular straighteners are "my absolute favorite" out of all the models of ghd's so far. They beep
to let you know when they heat up and they "even shut themselves off" after a quarter of a hour, if you have not already done so yourself. They heat 210 degrees in ten seconds and "as if all that isn't enough."
They even have universal voltage meaning that you can "use them anywhere." They are quite long and there is a button on them, on the inside, where the bottom plates are to switch them on and off beside it is the "LED light" which lights up to signify when they are ready to be used. The plates are of a sort of yellowish, gold colour and the main area surrounding them are black, you will see written either way you turn them "ghd" and below that the word's "professional styler with ceramic technology." Even though they are quite long and thin in width, they are easy to grip. The wire is reasonably long so they should reach to wherever you need them too.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH GHD'S
I have had the four pairs of these in total now, the previous one's broke but i was willing to get them again because they are "the best" straighteners that i have ever used. I was not too pleased when they did break though. Some pairs lasted longer than others in varying lengths of time, one pair broke after "only a few months" but this was "the previous models." I have had my current pair since last Christmas and i have had no hassle with them whatsoever.
I think that the more acquainted that you become with ghd's, the less likely they are to break, unless you get a faulty pair. I think it's like most thing's in life in the sense that you "learn from your mistakes" with them and take better care of them, to prolong their life, so that you can have them for longer. I have now stopped wrapping the wire around them and i wont set them on clothing or on my bed, when i am getting ready to go out "which i was" guilty of doing in the past. This could well have been the reason that my previous one's broke.
It just takes being careful with things "like making sure" that your hair is 100% dry before "going near it" with these or any other straighteners for that matter. I learned that after a frightening experience with straighteners in my past. When my hair was not "completely dry" and my mum shouted and told me to "drop them" sparks where flying from the bottom of the straighteners and i was holding them oblivious till that until she pointed it out to me. I think that we can become "too comfortable" with these and treat them like our friend "at times" but they are not they are still "electrical appliances" and dangerous if not treated with "respect." I have got burnt on my thumb, ear, knee and foot so many times that "i have lost count" because sometimes, when you are "in a rush" or your mind is "preoccupied."
It is very easy to forget yourself and place them on your knee "that's how my knee got burnt" or maybe be preoccupied in your thought's and hover them too close to your ear and then they sneakily slip and burn it. This also comes from my own "clumsy experience" lol and believe me if you get burnt with these "its very sore." it's a niggling pain and it's annoying too.
MY OPINION
These are so versatile, i would not be without them unless "i had no other choice." I have been in that situation and did not like it one bit. The "imposters" did not live up to these straighteners because it takes "so little" effort with these and such a short amount of time. Just one stroke of these straighteners down from the root of the hair that you are straightening "is enough" to straighten even the thickest hair. I would know "my hair" is very thick, when i just wash it. I hide until i can straighten it and make it look "normal" because it's so thick and just unruly lol.
These can create "so many" different looks hence why i mentioned that they are "versatile." They can create "super straight and sleek hair, beautiful curls or lovely waves and can even be used similar to crimper's. They are very easy to use the power of the heat makes them "very easy" to use for such things because of it. They give you very fast results, they also reduce the appearance of fly away's and frizz. These are indeed expensive but they are in my opinion "the best one's available" there is just so many possibilities for hair styles with these.
I also think it is great that they turn themselves off because "a long time a go" when i was still at school and i went to an exhibition on fire safety. One of the firemen said that "some of the main" causes of fire's, where straighteners and phone chargers and that's even if the switch is off. If they are still in the wall "that is enough" to cause a fire. This always stuck with me because i am obsessive when it comes to making sure that plugs are off even to a point where i repeatedly check. The design of these straighteners is very nice, i have the black and gold one's but ghd's come in a few different colours now. I do like pink but i am sticking with my ones because they do what "i want" them to do and that is more than enough. The styling products that came with my straighteners, also from the ghd range "were fabulous" and they worked exceptionally well. Even leaving my hair shiny which i do not even think was something they were meant to do.
Expensive yes, worth it? In my opinion yes definitely, if not for the quality and great results. Then for the reassurance that they give you because they turn themselves off, if you ever forget to turn them off by accident. They usually cost around £120 but they can be gotten for less than that, if you shop around.

When I was researching hair straighteners for my daughter’s fourteenth birthday (as I recall) many years ago, it was excellent reviews like this one on Ciao that helped convince me that the GHD was the ONE! I had already bought her a cheapo hair staightener at half the price, by Vidal Sassoon I think it was, but my daughter had assured me that it just didn’t do the job it was supposed to. Mmm. Well, I bought missy a pink GHD, and she has never looked back. So there you go girls – make sure that you get that GHD and you too can set out on the road to wealth and success. No, seriously, This is an excellent review of an excellent product that really did straighten out my daughter, sorry her hair, exactly as claimed. I would never buy a different make for my daughter again. (Promise!)
