11.03.04 - I just got a diamond for this - thanks everybody. xx
I admit it. I have just spent £94 on a pair of GHD Professional Ceramic Hair Straighteners. Now I'm not proud of spending that amount of money on a beauty product but stay with me, read this and you'll be hooked.
I have nightmare hair. Until I was about 16 it was poker straight hair. I could wash it and leave it to dry and it dried just like I had come out of a timotei advert (only with brown hair not blonde) Suddenly adolescence hit and my hit turned frizzy, wavy and basically was a shadow of its former self (I blame my dad he has wavy hair but being a man has it really short so it not a problem - think I also got my dads nose though which is more of a problem but lets not get off the subject.) I normally end up putting some Vo5 Nourishing Crème in my hair when wet, tie it up and wear it curly when its dry – but sometimes I do want straight hair.
Now my friend went to the hairdresser and she has incredibly naturally curly almost ringlet hair. She asked the hairdresser to straighten it and they got out some GHD Straighteners. She came round my house to show me and I actually couldn't believe it. Her hair was amazing. Not a frizz in place and the transformation from curly friend to a straight friend was amazing.
Now I have some Revlon steam assisted Straighteners that cost me £45 and I lent these to my friend. However she did some research and came up with the sensible solution that using straighteners that rely on steam are probably not a good buy. After all steam creates a humid environment and we all know what happens to hair in humid places (just pictures Monica from Friends screaming IT’S THE HUMIDITY in one of their episodes) Anyway my friend did not get on with my straighteners and in fact she looked like a frizzy mess when she had finished.
I had always used the Revlon steam assisted straighteners with no problems but my hair went frizzy the first day I had straightened it and always looked better the next day. This meant if I was going to a wedding or something I would have to wash and straighten my hair the day before to give the frizz time to settle down.
Anyway to cut a long story short Claire told me she was going to buy some GHD's and I totally encouraged her. However I then found out she was going to pay £100 for them. I called her mad, told her she obviously had more money than sense, told her to pay off her debts first - you know all the usual (don't worry since buying mine I have eaten serious humble pie.)
We were getting ready one night round at hers and my hair was a real nightmare not straight, not curly just frizzy. So Claire offered to run the GHD's through my hair. Well well well. I was hooked. My hair in next to no time was soft, sleek, frizz free, shiny, manageable and straight as a poker. I was hooked.
I recently spent a month in Australia with Claire and her GHD's and decided they were a beauty buy I simply could not live without. I needed these and needed them now.
The thing about GHD's is that they are not like normal straighteners. The plates that you run through your hair are much slimmer than normal and these little beauties heat up to 210 degrees in less than 7 seconds. My old straighteners needed plugging in and I would literally have a bath and get dressed and put on my make up before they were hot enough to use. Not with these. You literally plug them in and before you get a brush through your hair there hot, ready to use and just begging to straighten your hair.
My friend bought her GHD's from a local hairdresser but I decided to do a scout on the net. I typed GHD into Google and literally 144,000 pages came up on these little beauties. I checked out a few sites and realised how big the range is. All the range relies on the same ceramic technology but the straighteners come in different sizes. A small plated one for men or women with short hair called the GHD Mini Styler. A medium sized plated one that is the normal GHD Professional Ceramic Straightener and the super duper GHD Salon Styler. The prices were all about the same on the web so it’s not worth hunting around to find a bargain - these all retail between £80 and £100 each. I found some for less but they wanted £10 for P & P so it made the cost the same.
I opted to buy mine from www.jasonshankey.co.uk. I chose this site because at the minute they have special deals being offered. The smaller Mini Styler is on the web for £80.95, the GHD Professional Ceramic Straightener is £89.95 and the GHD Salon Styler is £95.95. However they were offering the GHD Salon Styler with free P & P and free next day delivery. Now I can only comment on this particular site but I found them brilliant. If you order before 3pm you get free next day delivery to any UK address. The delivery was by Royal Mail and this allowed me to log onto the web and use there Next day Delivery Tracking System to track my parcel. I paid my money (the site is all secure) and I received an email immediately to thank me for my payment. The email informed me that as it was 10pm my product would be dispatched the next day. It turned up with the postman at my work address at 9.15am. The process was quick, easy and they turned up when promised so a full thumbs up from me to the web site. I even received an email afterwards to say that by now my product should have been delivered and to contact them if it wasn’t as I expected. Are you kidding I was now the proud owner of a pair of Salon GHD’s.
So now to the actual product. Its about 8 inches long and this includes the handle. The handle has an on and off switch which I think is an amazing invention. You can leave them plugged in but switch off at the handset. Normally to turn straighteners on you just plug them in but the added bonus of an on and off switch I think is brilliant. The electric lead on these straighteners is really long. At least twice the size of a normal length if cable so no worries about stretching it round corners to find a mirror – the length of the lead is ingenious. The straighteners are a light grey with a orange GHD logo emblazoned on it. The actual ceramic plates are only 1 and a half inches by 3 inches so not really that big and these are suggested for really thick hair or Afro hair. Its hard when looking at this product to see exactly how they can be so effective. They look little, silly and almost a joke for your money. However plug them in, run them through your hair and the results are startling. The electric flex that goes into the straighteners pivots so you won’t end up with the lead strangling you or clinks in the lead. There is a red light on the handle that indicates the appliance is plugged in, which again is good so you won’t go out and leave them plugged in. The red stays on for the 7 seconds that its heating up and then flashes at you to tell you its hot enough. Personally I believe its winking at me to tell me how nice my hair will look.
Instantly my hair was straight. Not only was it straight but the left hand side of my hair has a kink in it that many hairdresser has trouble getting rid off but after about 5 seconds the kink was gone. There was no frizz, no ends sticking up all over the place just gloriously straight hair that looks in wonderful condition. It swings like I am on a tv advert and I could even accuse myself of being a tart. I can’t help standing at the mirror and admiring just how good my hair looks. Its shiny, straight, frizz free, looks in good condition and almost appears to belong to someone else. I seriously have trouble believing that this is my hair attached to my head looking back at me from the mirror.
However - Now a word of warning. This new Ceramic Technology is supposed to protect your hair and leave it conditioned. However I am sure I don’t need to tell you that if you are putting two ceramic plates through your hair at a temperature of 210 degrees then this is not good for your hair. No amount of research can ever convince me I am afraid that this is good for my hair. It quite simply isn’t. Again GHD sell hot oils that claim to protect the hair even more. However a 210 degrees coating of your hair on a daily basis is probably the best way to have knackered looking hair within of a couple of months. Hair straighteners are fine for occasional use but I really don’t believe these are good for the hair and after using these the hair is actually too hot to touch. If you touch your hair you will burn your fingers – it’s as simple as that. A brilliant buy that on a Friday night I would not dare to leave the house without using but lets not kid ourselves that are actually good for our hair.
Would I recommend these? – YES Will I ever use a different hair straightener again? – NO Are these worth the money? – YES Am I in love? – ABSOLUTELY.
Thanks for reading. I am just off now to get a part time job so I can justify these to my bank manager when he wants to know why I have just spend nearly a 100 quid on hair straighteners rather than paying my overdraft off. xx

...commercial break, this company called GHD advertised acting as “Sponsors of The Salon”. GHD was being marketed as the God of hair products. The "new religion in hair care".
GHD? I thought. Who’re they when they’re at home? BaByliss I’ve heard of but GHD?? And the God of hair products? Come off it! As if!!
Or so I thought….
As time went on I started hearing more and more about this GHD company. I eventually learnt the initials stood for “Good Hair ... ...a company! GHD soon started to focus in predominantly on their hair straighteners. This was when my ears pricked up to listen intently. Ok. We’re always seeing these hair dressers on the telly demonstrating how easy it is to get straight hair. They run these hair straighteners through someone’s hair and miraculously the hair is transformed from a frizzy mess into a sleek, smooth head of hair. I’d come to the conclusion that it was either a trick ...

Advantages: Heat in seconds, Can straighten and curl, really work. Disadvantages: The initial price.
...~~The Technical Bit~~
GHD ceramic stylers come in three styles, Professional (available in black or pink), Salon Styler and Mini Styler. I have the first type, though would go for the professional if ever I had to replace them. The salon is the more common due to it's price and practicality. The Professional Styler features wider plates meaning you can work quicker through larger sections of hair which makes it ideal for thicker or heavier hair. ... ...However the people at GHD to claim that the iron emits negative ions, which reduce static and create shine by closing the cuticle and that infra-red heat actually protects your hair by sealing in its natural oils, moisture and hair colour, so it could be that also! The irons come in a box, but you must let the irons cool before putting them back in. You can buy special mats or bags that are able to cope with the heat meaning you can put them away ...

...I have been introduced to ghd straighteners in earnest and I cant help but want to write about them.
I am actually sitting writing this sporting my newly straightened hair, which might not seem much to write home about but believe me, this is an achievement not to be underestimated… I have naturally very curly hair, if left to its own devices it will curl and frizz to its hearts content… on better days I can get some decent looking ringlets out ... ...nicely by a pair of ghd straighteners.
After only around 10 minutes I was allowed to see the results and there was a comedy double take moment when even I had trouble recognising my own hair… smooth, sleek and most of all – straight!
Some minor adjustment later and we were ready to go – which is when the real test begins… would the newly straightened hairdo last the whole evening or am I destined to return home at midnight like some frizzy Cinderella ...

...savings (£87-man I’m rich!) on GHD straighteners. GHD, or good hair day, are renowned throughout the hair industry as producing not only the best, but the most expensive straighteners out there, and are used by celebrities, celebrity hairstylists and the best in the business. So of course I had to have them.
This is the part where I brag about them. They come fully equipped with:
• Ceramic plates which heat up to 210 degrees in 7 seconds
• Temperature ... ...than many websites, including the GHD website which charges £95 for the same product. I would urge you to look around when buying such an expensive product, particularly when there’s such variation out there online. You could purchase a pair on Ebay for a very reasonable price, but you must take into consideration the postal charges and the feedback of the seller before bidding.
I know you’ll think me very sad, but I must say I got rather excited ...

Advantages: STRAIGHT HAIR!! Disadvantages: They are not the cheapest of items!!
...To begin with I must say that my hair is THICK and FRIZZY and WAVY!!!
Before GHD's were invented nothing could control the state of my locks. I tried several different straighteners but alas they could not fully straighten or tame by thick hair.
Then my friend introduced me to GHD (good hair day) professionalceramicstraighteners. At first I was sceptical but after testing hers I knew that these were the straighteners for me. . . . . The GHD's glided effortlessly through my hair and left it looking POKER STRAIGHT!!! I had never experienced this before and was amazed that it had worked so well. I have found though that it is best to straighten small sections at a time rather than attempting to get as much hair as possible into the straighteners in one go - this provides for optimum straightening. I also found that the GHD's left...
