UPDATED; see last paragraph.
The GM (General Motors) card is NOT a card for people who have trouble clearing their balance monthly. The retail rate is 19.9% which can easily bettered elsewhere on many other cards.
However, if you always clear your balance and you are after a new Vauxhall (in UK) then this is the card for ALL of your spending. It gives £3 for every £100 spent off a new car, currently up to a maximum of £2500 discount. I opened one as soon as they came onto the market some years back and have had discount off 3 cars, amounting to ~£5000 and I've never paid them (GM card) a penny.
As well as substantial discount off new cars the card also gives smaller discounts off used, Network Q, cars. Discount size depends on model but is around £500 so still worth having if you buy from dealers, as it is on top of any other discounts you can negotiate.
As I usually buy small cars such as the Corsa, the discount amounts to a substantial percentage of the negotiated price. In fact, I couldn't use all of my points on my last car change as once I had traded in my last car and then applied the discount they would have ended up owing me money!
And there's more: There are such things as 'partner points'. Basically this means that if you use your card with certain traders then you get an additional 3%, totalling £6 per £100 spent. These traders are listed on the GMCard shopping website and include Lunn Poly, Pharmacy2U, BOL, Vauxhall dealerships (some items) and a few others.
So, all in all an excellent deal if you want a cheaper vauxhall and always clear your balance. The nearest comparable 'cashback' or points scheme gives 1%, so it's a no brainer. GM (General Motors, of which Vauxhall is a brand) also give you 100 points on opening the card. The card is run by HFC Bank on behalf of GM.
Other features:
I am particularly happy with the online facility available. You can see: your balance, recent & pending transactions, dates paid/to pay, minimum payment, credit limit, interest rates, points balance. You can also make balance transfers, payments, change statement date and amend account details. I only wish it would let me download the statement into MS Money (I've asked and they say it 'is coming soon').
UPDATE:
Now the bad news: The scheme rules changed in February. Now, instead of always getting a discount of up to £2500 you will be limited by car type. The new limits of discount are:
Corsa, Agila, Frontera, VX220 and all Vauxhall Vans £1000
Rebate Point reward rate=3% Partner Point reward rate=3% (in addition to 3% Rebate Points) Partner Points can still be earned at GM Card Partners (Avis, Lunn Poly, Vauxhall Dealers and GM Card Online Shopping Centre) 1 Rebate Point/Partner Point= £1 off a new Vauxhall

I reminded her that he had not asked for the card in the first place and told her that, as ...

I applied for this card using the visa website and within 6 days I had my card in hand. There were no phone calls or forms to send in, and a second card with my boyfriend's name on, arrived a day later. The package that arrived with my card included the car handout that details the list of points/money it takes to partially pay for a GM/Vauxhall car, security information, interest rates and contact ... ...that is allocated for a GM product is done through a percentage basis off of each credit card bill. Okay, so that wouldn't pay for the knob on the radio, but still, it's a start. Basically the more you spend, the more you get. 3% on every bill, up to 2500 pounds in 5 years.

...do this? By having a GM visa card and using it for most of my purchases. So how does it work? The GM visa now gives you 3% back towards any new Vauxhall car - a maximum of £2,500 can be saved over 5 years. You get 3 rebate points for every £100 spent on the card. These are not rounded up or down, so it really is a 3% rebate. However, this could be DOUBLED by using your GM visa at the card's "Partners". In theory, it is possible to save £5,000. This is a good incentive to spend your money on a holiday, knowing you're also saving towards a new car. Other partners are Avis UK, Vauxhall Dealers or online at the GM card shopping site. Once you have redeemed your points on a new Vauxhall, you'll get 200 "fast-start" points to get you going again. These are worth £200. The card has all the usual features ...

...vauxhall car by using my GM card, but the only drawback is a high interest rate, which is 19.9%.
I have been a customer for five years and my credit limit just keeps going up.
Recently I needed some extra cash, and rang GM to ask if they could do a special rate on balance transfers.
They said they could do a 4.9%, which I snapped up, and filled the card from more expensive ones.

Advantages: Real money off new Vauxhalls. Disadvantages: You need to buy a Vauxhall new.
I've had a GM visa card since they were introduced to the UK about 15 years ago. Originally they gave back 5% of our spend off a Vauxhall car (new) . Now this is 3% and the limit you can get as a rebate is now £1250 (it was £2500) I have saved £2500 off each of 4 new cars and £1200 off two others since the start of the scheme. It's the only reason I've bought Vauxhalls. I even pay for my cars using the card as this kick starts the next batch of rebate,

Reviews which might be of interest for "GM Credit Card"
I?ve had my Goldfish creditcard now for several years, and have found it to offer the second-best return. It gives you the equivalent of 1% back on what you spend, although admittedly not in cash.
As an aside, the GM Visa card is still the best value creditcard for rebates, giving you up to 6% of your spend back off a Vauxhall. If you want to know more about this, please see my earlier opinion.
Anyway, back to the Goldfish card ? here are the important facts?
· it?s available as either a Visa or a Mastercard.
· it?s FREE
· you get 1% back in rebate points which you can redeem for Boots gift vouchers, money off your British Gas Bill, and a wide variety of other useful items.
· you pay no interest if you repay in full 25 days after your statement date, otherwise the interest rate is currently 1.24% per month (15 ...

Advantages: simple polite good value Disadvantages: none
I like to think of myself as a pretty average consumer.I like the idea of a bargain and obtaining good value.I find the use of creditcards a must in today's consumer driven society. They have many advantages, such as reducing the need to carry cash and also enabling you to purchase items there and then, rather than waiting until such a time as you have the cash,by which time the item may not be available at that price.
Having said that the use of a creditcard does need a reasonable amount of willpower for some people.I am lucky that I always pay my creditcard bill in full every month.Interest rates on a particular creditcard mean therefore, very little to me.
What I wanted was a creditcard that gave me a good return.Having previously had a GMCard which accrued points off of the purchase price of a GM vehicle(which I never used ...
