navman 3450 on ipaq h3950
Advantages: all one unit, handheld, build in antenna, compact flash slot, antenna output Disadvantages: warm up time , loses signal from time to time, battery life , have to go setup every time you want to use it, hard to mount to a bike
...have a h3950 with a navman 3450 gps sleve it works well and i recomend it bit bad at reception but other than that works well with tom tom 5 on my PDA also the pda still fits on its base unit with it on what means you dont have to keep taking it off wenever you want to connect your PDA to the computer. if you want to use it for any more than 2 hours (depending on the age and use of your battery ) you will have to buy a in car charger or a external ...

This was just mildly impressive four years ago
Advantages: All software on one CompactFlash card Disadvantages: Very poor GPS lock. Maps now out of date. Connections fail.
OK ... so I'm a little late with this review. I've just upgraded FROM one of these devices, to a Bluetooth GPS system with separate GPS software.
Anyway, it's rather unlikely that you will be buying one of these new now. And if you ARE considering it, either new or second hand, then please read the following experiences of this system first!
The first day this system arrived, I was so excited. GPS Navigation in my humble Ford Focus. I already owned ... ...navigation device ran from the iPAQ's own power source, be that the internal battery, or from the car's cigar lighter.
I spent a while mounting the suction device to the windscreen, so that I could get the best view whilst driving. It needed to be out of my field of vision, but easy to see during a sideways glance. I got the system all fired up, and then sat waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting for a GPS lock. It just didn't happen.
The manual ...

Navman 3400 Voice Guided GPS
Advantages: Very easy to use, clear precise instructions and display. Disadvantages: No postcode search and limited selection of alternative routes.
The ultimate present for the business man. This enables my husband to find various routes home from work when the roads are particularily busy. This product also is invaluable when travelling to unknown destinations. It provides accurate and clear instructions to enable door to door routing. Small and compact can be fitted to car, motorcycle, pushbike or just hand held whilst walking. A seperate antenna can be purchased to fit on the roof of the ...

TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module
Advantages: good Disadvantages: none
I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes.
The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong.
It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place ... ...it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! It does link up even if placed on the floor straight away, however that takes a few moments so up on the dash is best ...

Finally the PSP does something useful
Advantages: Excellent and innovative mapping, clear directions, 3D rendering, genuinely portable, sturdy build Disadvantages: Metric-Imperial units mismatch, dodgy address entry, quite expensive
OVERVIEW
The Go!Explore GPS add-on developed by Nav N Go finally transforms the PSP from a big black brick of annoyance to an indispensable tool by utilising the PSP's USB port to connect an external receiver and the supplied software to allow for route mapping and navigation.
APPEARANCE
The unit is supplied in a surprisingly large box, due mainly to the inclusion of a mount for using the GPS in the car. Also included are the GPS receiver ... ...charging cable for the PSP.
The GPS receiver itself is a very small affair comprising a Mini-USB plug and a thumbscrew to securely attach it to the top of your PSP. A very sturdy hinge then connects the actual GPS receiver chip housed in a white plastic square emblazoned with the legend "GPS" just so the less intelligent gamer is left in no doubt as to what the device is.
The car mount is a work of genius in tough black plastic featuring a huge ...
