GPS extraordinaire
Advantages: Very fast connection speeds Disadvantages: None
After purchasing a Pocket PC (HP hx4700) mainly for use as a calender assistant and portable web browsing device, I soon discovered that it could also be used as a portable Sat Nav device as well, allowing applications such as Tomtom to be uploaded onto it, and for those who are interested in light aircraft flying, like me, memory map is fantastic aviation GPS program which can be used on using actual CAA aviation maps with GPS data overlay for flight ... ...is needed to allow tomtom and memory map to function is a GPS receiver device. I had previously purchased a Compact Flash card extension GPS receiver which plugged into the Pocket PC's existing ports directly, unfortunately, it was very poor at satellite tracking and position locking, taking several minutes to lock-on to your position. After failing to be impressed by this Compact flash GPS receiver, I was beginning to loose faith with the whole ...

TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module
Advantages: good Disadvantages: none
I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes.
The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong.
It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place ... ...it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! It does link up even if placed on the floor straight away, however that takes a few moments so up on the dash is best ...

Finally the PSP does something useful
Advantages: Excellent and innovative mapping, clear directions, 3D rendering, genuinely portable, sturdy build Disadvantages: Metric-Imperial units mismatch, dodgy address entry, quite expensive
OVERVIEW
The Go!Explore GPS add-on developed by Nav N Go finally transforms the PSP from a big black brick of annoyance to an indispensable tool by utilising the PSP's USB port to connect an external receiver and the supplied software to allow for route mapping and navigation.
APPEARANCE
The unit is supplied in a surprisingly large box, due mainly to the inclusion of a mount for using the GPS in the car. Also included are the GPS receiver ... ...charging cable for the PSP.
The GPS receiver itself is a very small affair comprising a Mini-USB plug and a thumbscrew to securely attach it to the top of your PSP. A very sturdy hinge then connects the actual GPS receiver chip housed in a white plastic square emblazoned with the legend "GPS" just so the less intelligent gamer is left in no doubt as to what the device is.
The car mount is a work of genius in tough black plastic featuring a huge ...
