I can now talk back =D
Advantages: Niffy technology Disadvantages: A little confussing to use. Hefty price tag
The Garmin nuvi is possibly the best sat nav system around.
The Garmin nuvi 865T features speech recognition technology (so you don't have to take your hands off the wheel), a 4.3-inch widescreen display so that you can clearly see the directions as well as hear them, preloaded maps for UK, Eastern and Western Europe (They do need updating regularly like other sat navs though), 2D and 3D maps and includes a full 8-digit UK postcode search (To be ... ...with). The Garmin nuvi 865T also features a FM transmitter allowing you to hear audio, including voice prompts and MP3s, through your vehicle's stereo although the voice is particularly annoying and i found myself getting stressed by the constant barking voice although much better than my boyfriends complaints of "women drivers" i will admitt.
Garmin nuvi 865T also has niffty hands-free calling technology through the wireless Bluetooth module and ...

Garmin eTrex Legend HCx
Advantages: Tough, compact, waterproof, accurate, cheaper than bike specific gps Disadvantages: Expensive maps, Poor bike handlebar mount, slow data transfer
This is a tough, well designed and compact handheld gps device. Personally I use this for mountain biking, with the GB Topographic map, and find that it accomplishes what I need it to do very well and is extremely accurate. It has a microSD slot which is great, I have a 2gb card and you can easily fit the whole of the GB topo map onto it. Ok so the road routing may not be great but I did not even consider using it in the car when I ordered it. However ... ...although It does lack features of a dedicated sat nav. It is waterproof so ideal for outdoor use, this is especially handy on the bike. It doesn't float but I don't intend on riding through anything that deep!! It is bluechart compatible so thats another use for it if you purchase the marine maps, which I have and the detail is great. The games are fun the first time but you soon get bored and you do look a bit weird running round a field chasing ...

"In 50m please turn left"
Advantages: Can be used with a gloved hand, easy to install, uses Mapsource Disadvantages: Doesn't come with BT headset, display a bit wobbly, expensive
...a bike mount for the Garmin 2610 but it has many limitations) so a specific unit is required. Whilst there are loads of sat nav units for cars giving a large range of choice to suit all budgets and tastes, the same cannot be said for bike sat nav units. Basically, there are two to choose from: The TomTom Rider or the Garmin Zumo 550.

Hiking fun! Till you're lost! Never with eTrex
Advantages: Lightweight, robust and easy to use Disadvantages: No interface to the computer.
...research, I decided on the Garmin eTrex Summit. Of course the eTrex Summit can be used for more than just geocaching. It is intended for long distance walkers of hilly or mountainous terrain. It incorporates an electronic compass to aid navigation and an in-built barometric altimeter. It can store up to 20 routes and up to 500 waypoints.
The eTrex Summit weighs just 5.3 ounces - definitely light in weight. It is shaped rather like a mobile phone ... ...carry.
It is waterproof. Garmin claim that the unit can be safely submersed to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Now, I haven't actually put that to the test but my eTrex Summit has withstood heavy rain and snow and has emerged unscathed (unlike me).
The eTrex Summit requires 2 AA batteries they are easily inserted in the back of the unit. Garmin claims that the unit has up to 16 hours battery use. I have found this to be variable with the different types ...

The ultimate safety device to help keep your licence clean
Advantages: Small, sleek, stylish, lets you know what the speed limit is, informs of hidden dangers Disadvantages: Can't link it to a separate satnav system
****What is it****
The Snooper Sapphire is a speed camera detector system that works using a GPS signal. However, unlike conventional and similar products the Sapphire also warns of other road hazards such as exceptionally tight corners (you know the ‘U-bend’ type), schools, hidden dips, dangerous junctions and the like.
****In the box****
The box weighs in at 1.1kg, most of which is excess packaging although there are some accessories in addition ... ...high risk zones. Snooper have covered all bases with the Sapphire and the unit will give both audio and visual warning to ensure that you don’t miss anything. This is a great feature and very useful.
Thanks to the GPS technology the Sapphire can be used all over the world, including the UK and Ireland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Romania, Russia, ...
