Magellan Explorist 500 Europe
Review of Magellan eXplorist 500 Europe by
niglom
Advantages: Size, speed, colours, waterproof, SD slot
Disadvantages: Reliance on poor Magellan Maps, no third party support
...as any other Garmin or Magellan unit. It will also give you an accurate reading of latitude and longitude or OS grid reference.
But what's the use of a 16 colour TFT screen if the map on it doesn't use any of the colours?
Now this is when I bought the additional Magellan Mapsend Topo GB map for an extra £125. This promised:-
"Map detail at 1:50,000 resolution include elevations, woodlands, parks, nature reserves, lakes, rivers, roads, motorways, ... ...waterways paths and tracks appear at 1:10,000 resolution for fun and easy navigation in the outdoors" The bad news is the roads and tracks aren't accurate they're not where they say they are and they're shown as a dotted black line regardless of them being a public footpath, a bridle way, a road used a public pathway (RUPP) or even a road!. The woodlands are rectangular blocks of green and in no way representative of their true geographical position. ...

Navman goes all round
Review of Navman ICN 520 by
Stanislav69
Advantages: touch screen and keys, differnet route settings, simple to use
Disadvantages: bad night mode, 1 route at a time
The navman ICN 520 sat nav is a basic sattelite navigation system(sat nav) that is for those who do not drive a lot and want a simple to use and basic sat nav. Its mainly operated via the buttons on the right hand side of the screen but tries to incorporate a touch screen. The good thing about this sat nav is that it is not just a touch screen so for those drivers who may not be used to a higher level of technology it is very easy to use.
I first ... ...blind you but on this, Navman has not done a very good job.
Overall this sat nav is very easy to use and is welcoming to users of all ages from the younger generation for which a touch screen has been incorporated, to those who are slightly older for which the buttons on the right hand side make navigation around the sat nav easy. ...

Tom Tom's top of the range
Review of TomTom GO 930 Traffic by
jonahea
Advantages: Voice control ... 3D modeling at tricky motorways
Disadvantages: Voice command is sluggish
This new GPS system is Tom Tom high-end version. The Tom Tom Go 930 drives you where you need to go with accurate directions and new navigation tools such as voice address entry and advanced game guidance!
The Pros--- Offering entry by voice keeps your hands on the wheel if your driving and need to change route… the new lane assistance helps when the roads get complex by rendering the roads in a 3D form- making the route easier to follow. This portable ... ...time, text to speech function, integrated blue tooth, maps for UK, US, Canada and the rest of Europe, a remote control and a widescreen display! It also has a very long 5hour battery life which is obviously very handy in tricky situations.
Another bonus is it comes with free speed camera software- which I believe to be a must nowadays!
The Cons---Although the voice command is a great idea the feature hasn't yet been perfected and your often fothat ...

A very high price for features of no use
Review of TomTom GO 730 Traffic by
andrewjwatt
Advantages: Fast route calculations, clear voice prompts, great screen
Disadvantages: Silly features, battery life
The tomtom 730 is a great device however the extra features are really not needed for the extra cost of the device.
For example putting the audio prompts through your car radio is great but with a loud and clear on-board speaker whats the point?
I have an mp3 player so the mp3 player on the tomtom is no use to me. The list rolls on.
On the other hand it is fast and precise at calculating alternative routes, the lane guidance system which tells ... ...good but the higher cost for the features which to me personally are no use is silly as the tomtom 530 offers the same performance without some of these features at a lower price so I think I would recommend the 530 unless you will find these extras of use. ...
