Having used a Tom Tom Go 700 for a number of years, I decided to update the maps of Western Europe. Tom Tom uses software called Tom Tom Home which is used to download the updated maps. Having connected Tom Tom Go 700 to my PC, via a USB cable, it was a simple matter of clicling on the relevant icon on the Home Software, paying for the maps, and downloading them over the internet.
Payment was straight forward. It is undertaken electronically either ... ...Because of the size of the map file, it took a little time to download (I do have broadband running at 8mb band width, so I suppose a lesser bandwith will take longer.

My mum recently bought the Great Britain Topo for her partner's birthday. He had been looking for excuses to spend £150 for months, so we finally gave in and got him one. It was not quite what he expected, as the map of Britain is split into smallish sections. You select these sections on your computer and download them to your GPS. You can only have a limited number of sections on your GPS, depending on the memory of your model.
The Topo includes ... ...and other accurate geographical features like lakes and rivers. From what I know, the Topo is fairly accurate. I know that it has come in useful when walking. One of the main features is the ability to plan routes on the computer and download them to your GPS.

...removed the Miomap programme the TomTom Nav 6 installed quickly and easily and after selecting a few options, was up and running. The selection of only 2 UK voices was very disappointing, and neither really appealed. Navigating to a post code is simple to set up, but I could not preview the route until the unit connected to satellites. I had to exit the navigation screen an select a view map icon to see anything. Typing in a town name is predictive, ... ...to visit being unknown to TomTom and not shown on their street maps. Further investigation showed other village I had visited in Europe in the past to be missing. I also found planning routes with way points unnecessarily complicated. Navigator 6 can be updated using 'TomTom Home' on Windows PC. Version 1.5 can be downloaded for this purpose. However when connected, no map or speedcam updates were offered leaving me with rather old information. 'Home' ...

I purchased this through the TOMTOM website and downloaded it to my TomTom GO520 T. It downloaded really quickly through our 8 meg connection and I had it installed on my device within a few minutes. We used it for a driving holiday to Hungary in Feb 2008 and it proved fantastic - we did not come accross any roads (including tiny farm trtacks) that were not listed. All the POI's we used were accurate (petrol stations, shops, shopping centres, tourist ... ...journey as with all the TomTom products you can preview the map and route. In Mid June 2008, I downloaded the new updates Eastern European map and am going to test this out during August on yet another Hungarian driving holiday. Well done TomTom.
