Garmin xt mobile A-OK highly recommended
Advantages: Cheap compared to standalone, removes the need for seperate sat nav Disadvantages: No post code only search but this can be resolved with adding a house number of any house
Excellent software, Installed on my Nokia E71, Key points: GoodTraffic updates, Speed camera databases as free download, Quick route planning and excellent routes taken Bad points: no post code only search but just add any property number Installation is easy enough, the manual is very good and informative so dont worry about being non technical, and if you are technical you wont need the manual More in depth review of the interface: The main screen ... ...first option takes you into a second menu screen here are the main ones but not the only options Home - This takes you to your home address entered into the settings menu Addresses - This menu lets you enter by country/city then further into post code and house number. Points of interest - If you are new to sat nav this allows option lets the user select things like castles, petrol stations etc, very invaluable and works well. Recent finds - This ...

A package of maps worth having
Advantages: Ease of use and price Disadvantages: None
Having used a Tom Tom Go 700 for a number of years, I decided to update the maps of Western Europe. Tom Tom uses software called Tom Tom Home which is used to download the updated maps. Having connected Tom Tom Go 700 to my PC, via a USB cable, it was a simple matter of clicling on the relevant icon on the Home Software, paying for the maps, and downloading them over the internet.
Payment was straight forward. It is undertaken electronically either ... ...Because of the size of the map file, it took a little time to download (I do have broadband running at 8mb band width, so I suppose a lesser bandwith will take longer.
Use of the system is simplicity itself. You are given a choice of country, and then you select address, or point of interest. ...

You need tom-toms to find your way
Advantages: Large clear menu for touchscreen. Quick setup to navigate to postcodes. Clear driving instruction. Disadvantages: Poor POIs, Lack of route preview. Missing villages. No cam preview found.
...removed the Miomap programme the TomTom Nav 6 installed quickly and easily and after selecting a few options, was up and running. The selection of only 2 UK voices was very disappointing, and neither really appealed. Navigating to a post code is simple to set up, but I could not preview the route until the unit connected to satellites. I had to exit the navigation screen an select a view map icon to see anything. Typing in a town name is predictive, ... ...to visit being unknown to TomTom and not shown on their street maps. Further investigation showed other village I had visited in Europe in the past to be missing. I also found planning routes with way points unnecessarily complicated. Navigator 6 can be updated using 'TomTom Home' on Windows PC. Version 1.5 can be downloaded for this purpose. However when connected, no map or speedcam updates were offered leaving me with rather old information. 'Home' ...

Ditch the atlas
Advantages: Disadvantages:
...the new priority and the TomTom will be forced to re-calculate the route and find an alternative. The only disappointment is that there is no support for post codes in Europe, so it usually means studying Autoroute in advance and setting the destination on the PC. The addition of speed camera alerts is welcome, as they are usually hidden in Spain, and sooner or later a reciprical arrangment will be reached with Spain. The maps do go ut of date all ...

PC Navigator 8 UK Ireland and Europe
Advantages: Easy to use on a PC Disadvantages: Needs a GPS receiver
PC Navigator 8 with UK, Ireland and Europe maps. I highly recommend this product. Easy to install and use. Simple user menu's, Find and Navigate, Address, Postcode or Places of Interest, help to find your way to your destinations. Also has Speed camera locations which will need updating from time to time. Voice assistant is pleasent to listen to.
I have this installed on my EEE PC (701 Windows) coupled with a GPS receiver (USB). Works seamlessly. ... ...set this feature up correctly.
Because I am using the EE PC I needed to find a suitable mounting for the PC, and I tested the available mounts (sucker type and non slip matts). I settled for a home made platform. Your particular vechile will need a solution to suit. ...
