With the massive success of the Grand Theft Auto series on the PlayStation2, came an inevitable influx of similarly-vast, open-ended action games. The Getaway, Scarface and True Crime were all examples of this, though all followed the blueprint of gangsters/criminals/urban surroundings that ... Read review

state, battle cattle rustlers, outlaws, evil business men and figure out the conspiracy behind who your real father was. Simply put, this is an ultra violent tale of the old frontier. The lowdown:Swap the cars for horses, San Andreas for the big country and a Uzi for a good old six shooter and suddenly GTA becomes GUN. It's not quite that exact a copy though: the story missions are much more important here, with the side quests proving to be fairly short lived, and there's relatively little reward available for exploring the game world. The actual business of gun fighting and horse riding looks and feels great, with accurate, intuitive controls and surprisingly violent showdowns. Grand Theft Auto is a better game and Red Dead Revolver is a better Western, but this is still a decent effort at navigating a path between the two. Most exciting moment:Failing to take care of business in a horseback gunfight, then using your dead mount for cover!Since you ask:Developers Neversoft are the same studio behind the Tony Hawk's games - as you might have guessed from the familiar looking combo messages. The bottom line:Doesn't quite reach its full potential but a fun cowboy simulator all the same.Harrison Dent
Advantages: Great Wild West concept that is cleverly built around, decent combat, good story, pretty visuals Disadvantages: Areas between towns lack activity, the last boss, short-lived
...trademark of the genre. However, Gun proves to be a rip-off with a twist - it's set in the Wild West.
First released in 2005, Gun was developed by the versatile Neversoft - best known for their Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series and some well-received Spiderman platformer's. Touted as "GTA in the Wild West" by the gaming press, Gun is more or less exactly that - though it also has a host of notable touches that mean it stands above most of the other ... ...movements.
On first impressions, Gun will seem familiar to fans of sandbox gaming, but there are many elements that quickly distinguish it from its peers. Firstly, given that it's set in the late 1800s in the Wild West, you are understandably not pursued by a hoard of police cars (!) if you go on the rampage. There are only two populous areas - the cities of Dodge and Empire - where the player can carry out a range of tasks, though vast expanses ...

Advantages: Great storyline, many and varied side-missions Disadvantages: Quite short, no replay value
...in terms of car and gun crime, allowing players to roam freely around a large map with many and varied side missions to complete, with a main storyline always in the background. So that's that then, no more games of that type stand a chance do they? Enter 'Gun', a similar concept to Grand Theft Auto, but set in the Wild West. So it's time to put away the gang colours, flashy rides, 9mm semi-automatic pistols and your Tech-9 sub-machine pistols and ... ...intro didn't make it clear, Gun is a third-person (you see your character as though he were being followed by a T.V. camera) action game for PS2, Xbox, X360 and PC, in which the player takes the part of Colton White, a young cowboy who is about to find himself at the centre of some earth-shaking events, at least as far as the lives of the citizens of his particular corner of the wild west are concerned. The game carries an 18 certificate, which to ...

Advantages: based on the Wild West ages and with good visuals. Disadvantages: might not be liked by many.
...the year 2005 when the gun was developed and released by versatile neversoft the creators of Tony hawks pro skaters and other nice games.
The game is compared with the great GTA but I think GTA has an edge over them all although that the gun is a bit unique and has a bit different game play and nature. GAME MODE AND STORY.
The game starts up with the players' controls of Colton white with his father ned with a good beginning. All of a sudden, all ... ...GAME SCENE.
The gun is a very unique game when it comes to game action and enemy. You have to imagine the type of fun we normally have when we were still addicts of the Clint east wood's type of wild west movies. The gun as a game comes up with every details of the Wild West movies including the sound track type, the dressings and the gunshots sound of those days. You roll around with your horse and then attack enemies and I think that this consists ...

Advantages: Good Graphics and Storyline Disadvantages: Short and gory at times
A free roaming shoot 'em up, based in the New Mexico in the late 1800s. It's a tale of brutality, betrayal and greed, it's not a game for the faint hearted, as a lot of the things you can do are very gory. You can journey on horseback throughout the game as you attempt to avenge Ned's death and eliminate your enemies.
I love this game, it's got amazing graphics and a great storyline, although it was incredibly short. Because of the storyline being ... ...the game. Plus I don't like the idea how the natives are seen as savages & blood-thirsty (well that's how I thought they were portrayed on the game). Plus I am disappointed to see there were no multi-player games or chance to replay the side missions once you've completed them and you can heal your health by just drinking what i thought was quite weird (i wish i knew what it was he was drinking). Plus the controls are more or less the same as any ...

Advantages: Great Game Disadvantages: Graphics are ok
Name of the game: Gun
Platform: PC, also available on PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Gamecube
Genre: Third person shooter
My points: 7
Comments: I hadn't played any good cowboy games since.. well, ever and I was eager to try filling my childhood fantasies of being a real cowboy. The game started well. I was taught how to shoot and ride a horse by the tutorial. First thing noticed about shooting though was that you didn't have to be very accurate. As a ... ...accuracy when shooting things. In Gun, you only have to shoot 'there abouts'. Clearly a feature for other platforms the game has been released on.
So what do you do in Gun? You shoot bad guys. And I mean you really shoot bad guys! With pistols, shotguns, rifles, bows and you even blow them up with dynamite. The game isn't very long, but I had about 1000 kills in that short experience. The AI isn't magnificient. There isn't really any kind of co-ordinated ...
