Advantages: extra support materials Disadvantages:
...I have been using my edition of Tortora for about 15 years and have decided to finally update it. The text is well presented and organised. The ninth editionalso comes with a CD ROM and an atlas of the Human Skeleton. This is a brilliant text which should be considered essential reading for anyone on a medical or allied health course at university/college. The student pack can also be bought which really does work. I can't find any real fault with it and hope to use this text fr anoher ten years or so....

Advantages: Great text and illustrations Disadvantages: None
...Its not hard to see why Tortora (as it is effectionatly knwon) is a bestseller.
This remains the best book on both anatomy and physiology for everyone, regardless of course of study - medical students, anatomists, physiologists, pharmacists, whatever.
The book is laid out in a sensible system by system style and contain exceptionally good quality diagrams and illustrations. The text is readily readible. The chapters contain a list of learning objectives and reviews at the end.
There are also some useful tables and appendices which summarise, e.g. muscle origins and insertions, for easy look of facts too. And the current versions also come with an "Altas of Human Skeleton" and student CD-ROM.

This makes it very useful for medical students, as it focusses not only on normal anatomy and physiology but also mentions some essential disease processes that occur within the body.
The only problem that I encountered with this text is that in some areas it has a lack of detail and depth. Speciality areas such as immunology and anatomy typically require a secondary text for first year, although the Tortora is a very...
