I use Illy coffee with my Gaggia BABY, and it just means that you get grade A high quality coffee shop coffee when at home. I purchased when in Brown Thomas's in Dublin, the price for me converted was £198 which is pretty par for the course if you shop around. Previous experience told me I was buying quality so I was happy to purchase away from home, and my partner lives in Ireland anyway. There is some excellent quality options on the web from very good quality suppliers.
The Gaggia comes with a 15 bar pressure Pump, this is an important feature as my expert friend Al tells me as its what gets the flavor out of the beans. Removable water tank 1.6 litre capacity, it makes it easy to refill without spilling or splashing. Though some times I find it a little awkward to get out. I use ground Illy mainly, but occasionally buy beans and grind myself. This is an excellent addition to go for, it so mice to smell the sheer freshness of ground coffee. A grinder is not expensive mine was a present.
The baby Gaggia makes two cups simultaneously. It has a cup warming plate though I tend to heat the cups with hot water rather than using this facility, its much quicker. Make sure you heat especially if you are going to have an espresso. Making Latte or Cappuccino sometimes I microwave the milk a little first it speeds up the heating and avoids burning it using the nozzle, which I have only burnt it once, make sure you clean the nozzle right after you use the machine.
The machine comes with two sizes of coffee pod holder. You can also use either free ground coffee or the pod system which is much cleaner. I am a bit old fashioned and prefer to use the ground coffee.
The Gaggia comes with a 2 year warrantee from Gaggia! This is one to recommend and one that has sheer quality written all over it. So enjoy the ambiance as you suck in the aroma of really great coffee really well made coffee. Make sure you choose your coffee well, as I have said I recommend Illy.
Advantages: Makes café quality espresso with a perfect crème Disadvantages: Water can be too hot sometimes
I bought this espresso machine in September 2008 from my local speciality coffee shop; "MacBean's" in Aberdeen, Scotland. After viewing it in the shop it struck me as a thing of beauty as much as coffee machine and I could imagine it taking it pride of place in my kitchen- which it now does.
I paid £250 from this local Gaggia agent, though online it can be found much cheaper- for about £150 or even cheaper on sites such as eBay. I got a good deal as I when I asked for some free coffee to sweeten the purchase I was surprised to find I also was given a set of six espresso cups and saucers for free. I suggest you ask around when purchasing this machine as it seemed like the shop might have got them free from Gaggia as a promotional item.
After struggling home with my heavy purchase and regretting not taking a car I opened the box to ...

Returned - manufacturing fault (penarello swivel joint not secured to body) and cracked water container. Amazon out of stock, unable to replace, refunded.
Repurchased 10.1.08 from www.coffeeitalia.co.uk. Delivered 2.2.08.
Steam function fault developed September.
At the request of coffeeitalia owner, Magnoler Sandro, delivered to Gaggia UK 10.10.08 with cheque for £25 as requested by Gaggia UK with promise of a refund from Mr. Sandro.
Returned 20.11.08. Mr. Sandro then refused to refund, unable to find my order despite me providing his Invoice No.
Although making a great coffee, it is a pain to use.
With hindsight, for the same price or less, I'd buy a "beans in one end", "coffee out the other" machine and unlikely a Gaggia. ...
Advantages: it wakes you up in the morning, not with coffee, but with frustration and anger. Disadvantages: Dangerous, time-wasting, unreliable, poor repair system, no hard water filter
If you wish to know true hatred then buy this machine.
If you want to reach the point of smashing your £350 pile of expensive crap to pieces, then go ahead buy this machine.
But if you just want to have a nice cup of coffee, forget it.
It was designed by a some sub-normal deviant on day release.
(1) Fitting the coffee holder to the frame is a tricky task right? So you need to hold the machine right? So you grab the machine with your left hand while your're fitting the coffee holder right?
WRONG! Because then you'll trigger the touch control and send hot water all over yourself, your carefully prepared coffee and the floor.
(2) The main maintenance defect of espresso machines is water scaling right? So you need to have a water filter in your top-of-the-range machine right?
WRONG! Gaggia couldn't be bothered fitting one, unlike ...
