I love coffee. I really do. It is the best legal stimulant, and it tastes so bluming good. Is there anything better than waking up and having a cuppa to wake you up? I never used to like coffee, but since I started working in Whittard I have become an addict and now tea makes me feel a bit sick. What beats a coffee?
< Intro >
So why would you want to buy one of these machines? It is very simple actually. They give a bloody excellent cup/shot of espresso and they wake you up, they also taste great and cure a hangover like nothing else. If you have ever drunk or made a cappuccino or espresso yourself you will know what I am talking about. As you turn on the machine the smell is so aromatic. Then the end product is amazing, you get high caffeine, ass-kicking coffee that tastes remarkable. These machines are not for the faint hearted; they are for coffee addicts. 8-) – Blurry eyed coffee addict!
A – “It is very simple actually, Coffee Machines a great accessory to have in your kitchen.
They make your coffee, but they do not make cups of coffee. Coffee Machines actually make your espressos, cappuccinos, lattes and all those other great coffee drinks you buy in the coffee house, so if you want a big cup of coffee, you would be better of buying a filter machine or cafetiere.”
Q – “What are espressos and cappuccinos?”
A – Basically an espresso is a very small shot of strong coffee. A cappuccino is made in three parts. ⅓ espresso shot, ⅓ milk and ⅓ froth. Espressos and cappuccinos taste amazing; they wake you up like a treat before work.
Q – “So how does the machine work?”
A – To operate the machine is very simple. It is not as simple as some of the other machines on the market, you can get a variety of machines, this one is in the middle, it is not hard to use, but simple! A machine that is easier to use could be a Gaggia Trevi Plus or a Briel Chamionix. There is a big range of machines to choose from, so make sure you choose correct.
Once you have used the machine once, you will know how to use it forever! Here is a (very detailed) list of instruction:
1. Plug your machine into the socket. You will know need to prime your machine (this means turn it on, but it also means you are preparing the machine to make your desired drink – you are heating the water up).
2. Next you are going to need to get your coffee, if you are stuck please refer to my oncoming op, about coffee, the op will tell you all you need to know about coffee and what to choose.
I would recommend a strong coffee, something like a Santos and Java, but this is just a recommendation, there are lots more to choose from, Café Francais, After Dinner, Monsoon Malabar and loads more. When you buy coffee for your machine make sure you get coffee ground on the right grind. This is essential if you want to get a good cup of coffee from the machine. If you buy form Whittard’s, Grind 4 is what you need, but if you say and espresso grind anywhere else they will know what you mean and grind it for you. Now get two level teaspoons (preferably 7g) and add them to the brew head. Now you MUST tamper the coffee, this means press it down and compress it. Next place the brew head onto the correct place on the machine.
3. Your machine should be ready to use now. Place one/two cappuccino/espresso cups under the brew head. To operate the machine, push the button on the very left of the ‘button’ panel. This will turn the machine on. You will know when this button is ready to press because a little red light will turn on.
4. Once you have pushed this button the machine will start sending the water through the machine, it will then go through the coffee (in the brew head) and pour out into the cups. The machine is working at high pressure so do be careful. Go-to point 5 if you made an espresso or point 6 if you made a cappuccino.
5. ESPRESSO – You have now successfully made an espresso, to get the best flavour make sure you drink it now. It tastes best in the first 20 seconds! Now you have made your first one, you should try and become a Barista! This basically means you can make an espresso in 21-23 seconds – from the point the coffee comes out the brew head, till the coffee reaches the whit line on the cup should be 21-23 seconds. Enjoy!
6. CAPPUCINO – So you decided to make a cappuccino, go on you. You will now need to turn on the other button. This will know dry out the water in the machine and turn it into steam. When the light comes on again, it is ready. To froth your milk, get a jug (1L) and fill a third of it. Now place it under the frother and froth away. It is best to buy fresh milk as this will breakdown the proteins better.
When it is frothed, place a spoon at the entrance of the jug and pour the milk into the cup, then spoon the froth in. To finish sprinkle the chocolate sprinkles on top. There we go you have made a cappuccino! Doesn’t it taste good!!
7. Cleaning the machine is so simple. Firstly turn of the machine. You have a massive drip tray on the machine so it catches all those drips. It comes out so you can clean it and it is in a steel case so it can easily be wiped down. The milk frother can be detached as well as the brew head and be washed. So there you go, that is it!

< What I think >
I think this is one of the best machines on the market. I do sell it, and I am not biased, but when I have looked at other machines in shops I have not been very impressed, they have been black and busty. This machine is so stylish it is so cool, crisp and clean looking. It is excellent value (price is below) and it is great and will last you a lifetime. It is brilliant machine that if you want to make coffee everyday is ideal for. The machine is great!
