Ive had my Gaggia for a good while now...when I first got it it was in constant use...these days it usually doesnt get used much during the week...reason being that there is a lot to clean up after and not much time to do it....easier to make a cup of instant....thought of course its not any where near the same...just a matter of lifestyle...But at the weekends it comes into its own...and is in constant use...
Once you get over the initial 'how to' it comes as second nature, like anything else new...when you start to use them they seem pretty daunting to say the least...but once youve mastered it, away you go....
Now I have no idea what it would cost these days...(mine was aroung the £140 mark if memory serves me correctly) and more often than not some of these things tend to get cheaper...since there are very many more makes on the market these days... When I bought mine there were very few....got to be at least 14 yrs ago come to think of it so its a fair old time ago....One thing that will tell you is its durability...14 yrs is a long time....and with careful handling there is no reason why it shouldnt last as long as that....I am hoping mine goes on a little longer...
Now for the coffee.....I use Italian Roast...but then I like a strong coffee...especially if its going to be an esspresso....and I have it finely ground too.....It gives a pleasent couple of mouths full of coffee and you always want to go back for more....the nozzle you use to froth up the milk with works a treat, but you do have to be careful not to burn yourself as the steam gets incredibly hot, as you would imagine it would....one of these days I will treat myself to a delux model.....
The other thing that springs to mind is that a lot of the 'Coffee shops' and 'Coffee Bars' use the Gaggia make too....so that says a lot....Italians are very fussy about their coffee, if its not right they wont drink it...even when I have been to Italy the make they use is mostly Gaggia too....there again, that says a lot too....I would most certainly recommend it....it certainly beats hubby standing behind the kitchen door....making all manner of ridiculous noises to stress the point that your brewing real coffee....just think how grateful he would be if you actually went out to purchase one.....no more gargling to prevent a sore throat....ah bliss......and...another advantage to that is that it makes a great impression....how many times have you had a wonderful meal...and its devastatingly let down by insipid coffee to round of the meal.,...happened to me many a time and ive spent a few moments kicking hubby under the table to shut him up.....have fun :)
Not a brand I have heard of before but certainly is very durable from the amount of time you have used it. . It looks very old fashioned compared to todays styles. Fionaxx
