We drink a hell of a lot of coffee here and this is the culprit! It is cheap, its pretty well made and is a great introduction to a good espresso (or cappucino, frothy hot choc etc) The unit design has not changed much since they were released but some are now shipped with an aluminium coffee ground holder. This isn't a big problem but it wont last forever as the old bronze and chrome ones will. The pressure is good enough to pour a great espresso with good crema provided you get the grind fine enough. This is pretty much the same as many of the 'better' models- including an aluminium boiler- so descale as little as possible!
The unit is fast to heat up, the pump pressure is good but it does have only one boiler- so multiple cappucinos can be slow- you need to let the unit heat up and cool down between milk foaming and drawing espresso. If you drink lots of milky espresso based drinks try looking for a unit with seperate steam and water boiler.
Advantages: makes delicious cappucinos Disadvantages: cleaning is fiddly
...too expensive to buy a gaggia but when i considered how much money i was spending on take away coffees per week then this is an absolute bargain. I bought this machine one month ago and have used it daily ever since. it makes the most delicious cappucinoo which rivals all of the main coffee chain stores offerings. the crema on the top of the espresso it makes is really thick . You can make two espressos at one time or one depending on the size of ... ...machine a coffee scoop ., tamper and instruction manual. to use fill the water tank with cold water, let it heat up, fill the coffee filter with coffee, press the button and hot espresso comes out. Heat the milk using the milk frother- all included in the instruction manual! ...

This espresso machine makes the finest coffee. Not to strong but has the finest taste using the Presidents choice brand of espresso.

...I bought this after my krups machine died on me. I like this gaggia it gets hotter and steams much better then the krups. The filter spoon is much bigger and heavier (better for keeping your brew hot)
I dont find the water tank a problem at all, just dont fill it too full, The clear tank is great for keeping an eye on the water level inside.
The smaller filter basket supplied is ideal for pods, gaggia pods make a great espresso but I also like ones from cafepods.com.
I bought my machine reconditioned from gaggia.uk.com. It was about half price and seems as good as new.
So I can recconmend this machine as I can find little wrong with it, These types of machine come in many different price ranges but I feel you would have to spend a lot more to get a significantly better machine. And why go to all the fuss...

...The Krupps GV2 is a burr grinder which is designed to ensure a consistent grind.
It's suitable for all purposes, espresso to filter, but we use it in our gaggiaespresso machine.
It's simple to use, put the beans in the top turn the selector knob on the front to tally witht the numbers of cups of coffee you intend to make and turn it on,
Then stand well back because it's a bit noisy! Luckily it doesn't take long though, about 30 seconds for 6 cups worth.
You can choose between 2 to 12 cups worth of coffee.
There is another option to alter the coarseness of the grain - but once you have found the perfect coffee for you, you wont need to alter this knob. There's 17 different courseness settings so you can have fun testing the different variations.
Once ground the coffee is stored in a little removabel container ready to...

Achille Gaggia produced the first modern steam-less coffee machine on 5 September 1938, and are now probably the most renowned brand in the world.

So why pay £250 for a Gaggia Classic espresso machine.
If your a coffee lover and you have been to Starbucks, Caffe Nero or one of those other trendy coffee bars, when you open the door and you get that whiff of the fresh ground coffee being served to people lounging on sofas reading the free papers or chatting about life in general you will know why. The coffee machines that are in these shops cost thousands of pounds but do the same as the Gaggia Classic, they make a shot of espresso and froth milk.
Yes you can buy cheaper coffee machines, filter, stove top, percolator and cafe-tier but these are not pump driven machines and you need a pump driven...
