...to get a copy of Galactic Civilisation.
For me, the coin is still in the air over this game. True I have played it for many hours and find it rather addictive, but there are quite a few little problems which although insignificant on their own tend to add up. I will point out some of these later on.
The game itself cost £29.99, however that was just after release and I have already seen it at £24.99 in Game and it can be bought from any major computer ... ...with a 600MHz processor being a minimum. Anything over 1GHz is recommended by the manufacturer. In addition 64MB RAM is required as well as 500MB hard drive space. Finally a graphics card supporting 3D and Direct X8 is needed. Installation is an easy process, with just one CD, so simply follow the on-screen instructions and you'll be ready to play in no time.
Now onto the actual game. The thing I noticed about this game from the first minute really ...

...As a space conquest game, Galactic Civilizations is all about conflict, but that doesn't mean you have to rely on your military.
History
Hyper-drive has been recently invented, and now that all the galaxy's species have it (thanks to us!), they've all started to compete to become the dominant power in the universe, by conquest or other means.
Game-play
This is one of the reasons why people are buying this game! You just don't want to stop playing! ... ...statistics hidden behind everything in Galactic Civilizations, and the diplomatic AI does a pretty intelligent job (sometimes too good) of adding things up to see if they're in its interest. A militaristic empire may not pay much at all for communications advances or even be willing to trade prized technology for building a powerful combat base. Alignment
One of Galactic Civilizations' more unusual factors is its alignment system. Essentially, "good" ...

Not a MOO2 beater Review ofGalactic Civilizations (PC)by

Advantages: In-Depth, Good Atmosphere, Better than MOO3 Disadvantages: Samey, Bad Presentation, Tedious
...a close second.
Galactic Civilizations is - in essence - a grassroots crossbreeding of the above two games, accompanied with a brave effort to incorporate 'space opera' elements - giving the entire experience a more plot-driven feel and incorporating more variety into the average game. In my experience, however, these 'events' tend to fall flat, either being so small as to make little difference, or so huge as throw off play-balance completely.
... ...but on reflection, I see Galactic Civilizations benefitted largely from being released at the same time as Master of Orion 3, a truly awful game that GalCiv thoroughly outstrips. However, in comparison to Civilization 3, it pales, and even the venerable Master of Orion 2 is a much more enjoyable experience.
In short, if you /must/ buy a new 4X game, make it Civilization 3. If it /must/ be set in space, buy this, but - in this reviewer's opinion ...

Advantages: easy to learn, cant stop playing Disadvantages: graphics, not that original
I love strategy games, especially Galactic expansion games.
This is one of the best.
You start in the options screen. below your name, you get to choose what prefs your race will have. I suggest this:
Federalists (economy +20%)
Then modify advancments:
Pop. Growth +10%
Military Prod +20%
Social Prod + 20%
Research + 20%
Influence + 20%
Creativity + 25%
I always use a Gigantic Galaxy, game lasts longer :)
When choosing habitable planets, ... ...The next screen, you must choose the power of the alien races. For Beginners, I suggest changing all races to Beginner, working your way up to Genius or beyond as you get better.
No need to change thier personality. They range from PureGood to PureEvil. Once you are good enough, you could choose "Random", and await the supprise.
In the game, it is easy. In the bottom left is the date and cash reserve. Moving right::
Normal view button
