"Chessy but fun!"

The story starts with a trailer of television show being shown at a fan club convention of Galaxy Quest.
We then see a backroom shot of actors dressed in their respective costumes. There is Gwen (played by Sigourney Weaver, Alexander (played by Alan Rickman), Fred (played by Tony Shalhoub) and Tommy (played by Daryl Mitchell). They are upset that the main cast charecter Jason (played by Tim Allen) is late for the convention. Jason arrives and they go on stage.
A group of "aliens" go up to Jason asking for his help. Jason brushes them off and carries on signing autographs.
The next morning, Jason wakes up to find the same "aliens" knocking on his door. They take him to what Jason thinks is his next convention but Jason soon realises that the "aliens" are real and he is in space!
The rest of the actors join Jason and the aliens tell them that they need their help. Their race is being destroyed and they need Jason and the team to help them destroy the enemy. They believe that Jason and his fellow actors are the charecters in the show and can pilot the ship they have built.

The film has cheesy acting and jokes and is similiar to Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy and Spaceballs.
I like the story, I think the special effects are good and the charecters (human and alien) are good.
Cant remember the soundtrack.

Manufacturer's product description

GALAXY QUEST is a satirical comedy that pokes fun at the influence science fiction shows such as STAR TREK have had on their audience. The cast members of the cult sci-fi television series GALAXY QUEST now earn their livings appearing at conventions and grand openings, led by their bomastic captain Jason Nesmith, played by Tim Allen. When an alien race--the Thermians--arrives on earth, it appears that they have mistakenly appropriated the show's culture as their own, thinking the series was actual fact. Desperate for help in battling the evil General Sarris, they bring the actors with them into space to save their planet. A surprisingly smart and funny send-up of the science-fiction culture and the influence television has on the world at large, GALAXY QUEST is a comedy that even non-genre fans can enjoy, with terrific turns by Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tony Shalhoub.
