Force: Land Warrior--was packed full of realistic military action then think again. With Operation Flashpoint Gold you get 20 brand new single-player plot-linked missions, new vehicles and even an modest increase to your arsenal. Based in the first/third person viewpoint, you start as a Private in the Allied forces in 1985, sent on a number of missions against the imposing Russian forces. From here, following a campaign that takes you across many villages, forests and enemy bases, the idea is simple: stay sharp, stay alive and follow orders. But Operation Flashpoint Gold doesn't stop at being a first-person shooter in an army simulated world, for all the vehicles, whether it be a jeep or an Apache helicopter, can also be controlled by you. Set across luscious landscapes and rolling valleys, you'll soon start to think you're in a Chris Ryan book or army film as you and your platoon sweep a valley in extended file. In addition to the great eye candy, the AI for both your fellow soldiers and the enemy is very impressive, and at times you can soon be left behind in the battlefield if you don't pay close attention to what's going on. And the added bonus of a mission editor will allow you to continue with more assignments after you've finished the testing campaign and single mission levels. As with most games of this ilk, there's a heavy emphasis on multiplayer (there are 12 new multiplayer maps in the edition), without it hindering the single player game--and therefore the usual array of deathmatch, capture the flag and domination options are all here, with online communities around the globe already growing in vast numbers day by day. Make no mistake, Codemasters have come up with one of those games that'll be hard to beat in terms of sheer playability and open-ended gameplay, and if you've ever thought of donning that 58 pattern webbing then here's your chance to do so without getting too dirty. --Jason Denwood

remembered as one of the best GameCube games ever. Its immediate predecessor on the N64 suffered from a similar lack of street credibility but won people over with its gentle charm and unusual RPG style gameplay. The story in this new game involves Mario touring the whole of the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond to once again rescue Princess Peach. Little explanation is given for why all the characters in the game appear to be made of paper (it just looks cool!) but more is at least made of it in the gameplay this time, as Mario is able to fold himself up, origami style, to become a paper dart and other useful shapes. The combat sees Mario teaming up with a group of wild and wacky partners in a turn-based system that subverts the usual staid conventions of the genre by allowing you to inflict more damage, or defend against it, by timing a button press with the movement of the characters. However much fun this and the other sub-games are though the greatest joy with Paper Mario remains the witty dialogue and the fantastic graphics. In a world of under-designed blandness Mario's unending series of bizarre characters - from a room full of hundreds of dry bones (skeletal koopa turtles) to a hilarious pastiche of Super Mario Bros. where you get to control Bowser this is pure Nintendo magic from beginning to end. --David Jenkins
Advantages: easy to set up - great fun Disadvantages: rules take a bit of getting used to at first.
This game is quite new to me as it was one of my bloke's and it got put in a cupboard when we bought our house as we were too busy with the young un to play any board games. However if you have read any of my previous reviews lately you'll know we are on a bit of a game's fest at the moment and this is the latest for us to pull out and have a go at.
It is quite an old game and I think you would probably have to search Ebay for a copy of it these ... ...a very different game from most of the board games out there at the moment. Advantages: Very amusing, anyone can play. Disadvantages: Rules too complex.
I was given this game as a Christmas present when I was about 12. It is no ordinary board game. Instead of dice you have a spinny thing which is great fun to use. The object of the game is collect lots of red letter day tokens and get around the board (which is in the form of a calendar)first. The game revolves around your own personal circumstances, which is hilariously unfair at times. For example, you may have to move back a month because you ... ...criticism I have of this game is that the game rules, and the instructions, are so complicated that you often forget them and miss things. Imagine having to remember that landing on the other person's birthday or lucky number is bad, but your own is good (not too bad yet?). Then remember that this number will appear in every month, and that you also have to take into account the rules about players' star signs etc and give out tokens about every ...

Advantages: great fun for all ages, entertaining Disadvantages: long play time
I played this game at a friends house first and was hooked so begged my parents to get it for me for Xmas - it was all I wanted that year. I would not have cared if it was all that I got Christmas morning (ok, I would have cared a little!).
My Mum and Dad trudged through 4/5 towns in the nightmare that is December in shopping centres to get this game and it was not to be found anywhere but not ones to give up they hunted high and low and found it ... ...Lady who had spied the game but hooray my Mother won!!
The game then cost around £30 but I am not sure how much it is now.
So, there it was Xmas morning to fulfill my wishes and this was now to be the focus of our household for the next few days between leftover sandwiches and Dumbo.
The game board is set out like a calendar, the idea being you must travel through the year and get to the end hols the most 'Red Letter Days' - a little piece of ...

Advantages: A brand new game with all newe features Disadvantages: NONE
...This game has got to be the best game of the year. The strategy that goes into every single mission is immense. I love the way that the new units interact together to add a new dimension to the game. I also like the graphics because they are very important in games today. BAsically the Commies are trying to invade America and you either have to over see the invasion or defend your homeland against attack. I love this game nd Iwould recommend that you buy this because it is so much fun to play....

Advantages: Truly original Disadvantages: Wait for UK version
...Where do Sega come up with their ideas, this year has seen them release some of the wackiest and most original games in years. Jet Set Radio sees you controlling different members of your gang spraying graffitti over different stages throughout the city. The graphics are truly amazing , you will not have seen better. This game is great fun to play and will keep you entertained for months, I have been playing the Japanese version and I would recommend that you wait for the UK version as the game contains a lot of text that you wont understand. This is definitely the coolest game of the year....

Advantages: Endless Multiplayer Gameplay Disadvantages: Slow to start
...In my opinion Lord of the Rings Online is the greatest game this year! The gameplay is incredible and the graphics are tthe besy yet in an online game of such scale.
You, the player, takes control of a customisable character from four races and 7 classes. The game is always being updated, meaning more content and more game time!
The best feature is the amount of multiplayer interactivity. This is the main focus of Lord of the Rings Online. To bring players of the same interests together to form friendships, fellowships and alliances while defeating those less prefered players and creatures.
This game is a must buy and is worth every gold peice you can find in your wizards cloak of enchantment!...
