‘Grotesque floating killers, Wraiths move like ghosts, shifting in and out of phase. A Wraith’s spinal cord is elongated and fluid, equipped with powerful shock lashes and blades. Wide, hunched shoulders supporting a leering, skull face and long, whip-like arms wield scalpel blades for fingers and a nightmare assortment of arcane surgical equipment.’

A blister pack which contains the components needed to make a single Necron Wraith. The model is beautifully crafted and looks fantastic when put together.
It contains the metal parts needed to make the model and a large round base. The Wraith comes in the following parts:

=PUTTING IT TOGETHER=
IMPORTANT: Glue and knife/cutting implement is not included. These must be purchased separately.
I found the best way to put these models together was this:
Firstly, glue the torso to the tail. This is a critical join that needs to be very strong so take extra care to ensure that it dries properly. I would recommend that this join should be pinned to improve stability.
Secondly, attach the carapace to the back of the Wraith. While that is drying, make a hole in the base at the point you want the tab on the tail to go (using one of the pre-positioned holes on the underside). When you’re done, glue the tail’s tab into this hole.
Finally, glue the arms into place, taking care to ensure the model won’t topple over.
=PAINTING THE MODELS=
IMPORTANT: Paints and paintbrushes are not included in this boxed set. They must be purchased separately.
Everyone has a different idea about what Necrons should look like: shiny, dull, rusty, colourful – the list goes on. My paint scheme may not be the most intricate or ‘the best’ but it’s a good, quick paint scheme which can provide some fairly impressive results. My force is based around the C’tan called The Nightbringer who is dark and evil. This is reflected in my general paint scheme.
First, undercoat the model with Chaos Black. This will mean that any crevices will appear is if they’re in shadow and gives the colouring a deeper shade.
Secondly, apply a drybrush of Boltgun Metal to the metal parts such as the spine, torso and arms. Avoid the carapace (shoulders) and make sure they stay cleanly black. Once dry, apply watered down brown ink to the model’s metal parts to give it an aged look. Next, apply a highlights to the edges and raised areas with Chainmail and, if desired, Mithril Silver.
Next, paint Fortress Grey on the face, taking great care to avoid the crevices. Make sure that the crevices stay black – they look horrible in grey. Once all of this is dry then apply Skull White on the face, again leaving crevices black. The eyes were dotted with green and green detailing was applied to the model’s hands where necessary.
Done!
=PLAYING WITH THE NECRON WRAITH=
Playing with this model requires Codex: Necrons. This is a book that can be bought at any Games Workshop in the country or online at www.games-workshop.com. You will also need terrain, gaming boards, dice, tape measures, templates, the rule book, an opponent and, last but not least, a legal army.
The Necron Wraith is a Fast Attack option and can be taken in groups of 1-3. They are excellent combat back-up for the rest of the army which is mainly based on ranged attacks. I use two Wraiths in conjunction with my Necron Lord to attack whatever comes near my Necron Warriors.
Whatever my style, yours will almost definitely be different. Find out what army works best for you and work on that. There are many websites which discuss strategy online so have a look around.
=ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE MODEL?=
My main issue in this model was the spine. I found it difficult to firmly attach the torso to the tail and ended up pinning it after lots of wasted superglue. It is the only part of the model that I wish had been designed differently. My second Wraith went together perfectly as I pinned it straight away – this is why I put the suggestion in the ‘Putting it together’ section.
=CONCLUSION=
This is a beautiful model. It was slightly more irritating to put together but it’s power and flexibility on the field more than makes up for it. It is brilliant combat support that should be considered by any Necron General.
