I generally find that most of the pre-owned games that have only recently come out are only about £5 cheaper but this is still a saving none the less.
They will allow you to trade in games for cash or credit, I believe you get slightly more value if you trade for credit instead (all going back in to their pot I guess!). For credit trades you do not need proof of identity but you will need these with cash trades and you will need to be over 18 apparently (I have only ever traded for credit so can't be definite on this). When trading games they will very carefully check for scratches and then scan the back of the game and tell you what each game is worth in cash or credit (whichever method you have chosen), if you choose credit you can either use the credit immediately instore or be issued with a credit note which does not apparently have an expiry date.
I find that there is often a good selection of games and equipment in the window such as guitar hero with a guitar for the playstation 2 for £22.99 and a friend of mine recently picked up a guitar hero guitar faceplate for the very cheap price of 99p!
The staff are always helpful and seem to be very knowledgable, whilst I was waiting for the girl serving me to find the code for something I was ear-wigging on a conversation between a man who worked there and a boy who'd come in to trade in some games and buy a new game, they were discussing the latest releases for the Xbox 360 and he was recommending a game and then even advised not to buy a particular game as it was very repetitive. Just goes to show that they aren't on commission of anysort!!! However, I did notice that he just said to me "how are you today" then when I said fine thanks yourself he wandered off (I felt like he was looking for a man to chat about games with - I know about xbox games you know!!!!!)
I would definitely recommend Gamestation and they have notices up advising that they won't be beaten on trade-in prices and I've heard that they'll match any price you find somewhere else and add £1 to the price (not sure if this is still correct though?).
Advantages: NONE - I used to think customer service helpline was good.... Disadvantages: Poor everything else
...did as advised and phoned Gamestation and provided the necessary details to one of the members of staff to view my order. However the member of staff regarding my order became rather confusing, starting to say I had a credit on my account of £33:92 to use to make an order with?
This was highly confusing, thus admittedly I did lose my temper and stated that what I had purchased was a package deal and thus it should be a simple case of me selecting ... ...had second thoughts about allowing Gamestation to complete my order due to poor service I'd received so far, therefore on Tuesday, 17th April. I phoned up to cancel Tiger Woods. When asked why I stated that I would rather receive it 'Sooner rather than Later'.
Immediately after canceling my order I then proceeded to go to an alternative website (*cough* Gameplay*cough*and place an order for Tiger Woods through them, which on the 19th April I received ...

Advantages: Trade ins, preowned games are cheap, quite good customer service Disadvantages: Quite small stores, not the best selection of games
Gamestation is a video game store that sells both new and old games and a few other items. They sell games for all the major consoles and also sell retro stuff like GameCube and Play station 1 games. Their prices for new games are not very good and are roughly the RRP but the preowned games are good and are quite cheap. They do not sell as many games as Game as the stores tend to be smaller and the selection is not as good. You can trade in games ... ...a £1 which is very good and means they are the best place to trade games in. You get more if you trade in for credit but you can trade in for good old fashioned cash. The customer service varies from being very good to quite bad and I think this just depends on which store you go in and the member of staff who serves you. Normally the staff are very helpful and when I have asked them questions have responded well and knew what they were talking about. ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Rubbish staff, Bad Pre-Order, Bad Consoles and pre-owned, Can they actually be bothered?!
...just on games such as Gamestation and GAME and some that sell other things too such as HMV, Virgin etc.
Gamestation has got to be the WORST on the Highstreet. Even though Gamestation is being bought my Game them leaving these stores as GS stores is a big mistake, every one I have been to the sales staff are useles and dont know what they are talking about. The stores always seem cluttered and nothing seems to make sense in there. The staff look ... ...of pre-ordering a game with Gamestation because they had an offer. When It came to release day I was told that unfortunatly my copy had been sold to someone else.. Thanks!
They don't check the consoles or second hand games they are selling, they may sometimes be slightly cheaper than GAME but at least at GAME you know your paying for a great service, friendly staff and your pre-ordered game wont be sold to someone else!
Many friends have had problems ...

Advantages: Excellent variety of games in stock, great trade in prices, still sells retro games Disadvantages: The only con is they don't give you much for trading PC games
...have completed, then go to Gamestation as they do a great trade in for you. I remember when my brother traded in a GameCube and 12 games for a silver PS2. I was astonished on how much he got for this - Wait for it...... - £230!! WOW! Now that is a great trade in price. Since then, me and my brother have been trading games in only at Gamestation. GAME wouldn't even give a better trade in price of that if my brother took it there.
In the shop, Gamestation ... ...brand new ones. Gamestation also still sells retro games, but only preowned. At the moment, they are looking for anyone that has retro consoles and is looking to sell them to hand them in. The trade in price for these are good. I traded a MegaDrive which I got around £15 for it and a while back, took my old PS1 in and got it for around £25. It may have gone down for the trade in price for the PS1 though since it was a while since I traded it in. ...

Advantages: Decent prices, can be decent for trading in Disadvantages: Poor customer service, lack of retro titles, why the I-Pod products?
Buying retro games from a GameStation store seems to be a thing of the past (at least so in the 2 Glasgow City Centre branches). Soon after GAME had bought them (on 2nd May 2007), the numbers of retro gaming goods reached a peak. Now, 2008, and for many months they've been reduced to only a couple of consoles, and they'd rather have a glass cabinet showcasing some I-Pod products instead. I struggle to see this as a strategy of The GAME Group - considering ... ...price checks, cheaper preowned game offers and they guarantee to beat any higher trade-in offer (not that this might be much).
The reward card scheme isn't as generous, equating to a 1% cashback. A GEDIT card is handed in along with the purchase and a new one is produced with an updated points balance. However, with the new card is a chance of winning prizes, should the Space Invaders monsters match. (Planned purchases could be split into 6 seperates ...

Advantages: Good customer service, cheap, wide range of products, Disadvantages: Far away
I first used CeX (rathbone place) a good few years back, but only rarely as there was a Gamestation down the road from my home, but since that closed down, I have made use of CeX many times since.
My only gripes about the store I use now (bromley), is that they sold me a game that proceded to break in my disk drive, and that it is quite far from where I live, but other than that the store is very good indeed.
The only issues I have with their website is that stock levels take up to 24 hours to refresh, so it can be quite annoying to go there and expect a product to be in stock and find out it isn't, and that they don't list branch telephone numbers on the site, but you can just use yellowpages.com to find out.
Overall, if you are expecting a serious game shope like Gamestation, you will be dissapointed, it is mostly staffed by ...

Game is a highly successful shop selling as the name suggests games. These include computer games, Nintendo Wii games, PS3 games and Ds games. Game has been selling products such as these since the 1990's and has bought over other stores selling similar things such as Gamestation. Game has hundreds of outlets across the UK and you can find Game at most shopping malls.
As Game has become so popular it has been able to cut down on most prices. This means that while the games are all expensive you could probably find them a lot cheaper then somewhere like WH Smith which only has a limited selection of games if any. Game also sells pre-owned games which I would recommend as they are a lot cheaper than the original version and if there is the slightest thing wrong with it Game will reject the game.
The Game shop is split into four ...

Advantages: Deals of the week, good customer service Disadvantages: Prices not that competitive, price checks not too tight
Never mind competing with online stores, shopping at GAME does not guarantee cheaper prices than non-specialist games stores. The price checking is not tight enough. On the odd occasion I've seen pre-owned - and in some cases disc only - games going for a higher price than their new equivalents!
The prices given for trading in has always been poor as far as I can remember - back in the PlayStation days I could never fathom their "trade-in 2 (fairly new) games and pay £25 on top of that for new game" deal. The secondhand section matches sister brand GameStation for range but suffers when it comes down to the offers - the titles that appear in GAME's "3 for £10" tend to appear in GameStation's "4 for £10", and similarly with GAME's "2 for £15" and GameStation's "4 for £20". (The booklet of trade-in prices that can be picked up for free seems ...
