... Parlez vous Francais?
Gap tend to label their clothes on the outside as well as on the inside so often you will see sticky labels telling you what the size is e.g. S - small, M - Medium, L- Large.
However sometimes the sticky labels also have P, M, G and TG - this is just the French translations.

Advantages: Classic items, quality products, good choice and price Disadvantages: Number of stores, some items pricey, can be a bit of a jumbe sale at sale time
As there are already 30+ GAP reviews I wont go into too much detail about what GAP is but hopefully I will provide you with some helpful tips for a successful shopping trip.
1. Size
GAP women's clothes are sized in American sizing which can be very confusing as MOST items don't actually tell you they're not UK sizes.
American sizes are two sizes smaller than UK sizes so if you are usually a UK 12 in US sizes you ... ...
2. Generosity
GAP sizes are cut much more generously than standard UK sizes therefore you quite often need to look for a size smaller than you usually wear. If you are a UK 12 its always worth trying on the UK 10 as well - it often fits better.
3. Variety
I own 5 pairs of GAP bootcut jeans and each pair look and fit differently.
Two pairs are one size and 3 pairs another.
Two pairs are standard length, ... more

American sizes are two sizes smaller than UK sizes so if you are usually a UK 12 in US sizes you will be an 8. (this is great for moral when you realise for the first time in years that the size on the label is in single figures!)
UK US 6 2 8 4 10 6 12 8 14 10 16 12 18 14
Small, medium and large sizes tend to be as usual.
Often is a sale you will find sizes 0 and 1 - these sizes usually aren't available in the UK - they are smaller than a UK size 6 so unless you very slim I wouldn't waste my time tryingto work out what they are!

3. Variety I own 5 pairs of GAP bootcut jeans and each pair look and fit differently. Two pairs are one size and 3 pairs another. Two pairs are standard length, two long and one short length. The point I'm trying to make is that quite often two items which are supposed to be the same size aren't. I tend to compare the waist and leg sizes just by holding them together and seeing if they match. Its also a good idea to take a wide selection into the changing room or if your already in the changing room ask a member of staff to get them for you - the staff are always very helpful and will help you get the right item - even if it takes several quick changes.

5. Big Piles T-shirts, jumpers khaki's and jeans are often found in piles of 10-20 items of clothes. In theory the piles should go from smallest to largest but sometimes items loose their order. A quick way to find the size you want is to turn the pile around so that the opening is facing you and often you will find that the size and price labels are sticking out making it easier for you to find the size you require.
6. Refunds As far as I know there is no time limit for refunds and exchanges. If you have your receipt with you, you can get a full refund or exchange. If you don't have a receipt you can have a credit note or exchange however if the item has gone in the sale you can only get its current value back.
7.Sale, Sale Sale Unlike Next, GAP dont go for the massive sale where they wheel out all the old stock. Stock comes in at full price for a specific period and then goes on sale. There is nearly always some sale stock in GAP and the price will continue to keep going down until the stock is completely gone therefore lots of real bargin can be found if you have a hunt - T shirts often go down to £5 and i got some jeans for £10.
And I saved the best for last… 8. Money Back. If you buy an item of clothing and it goes into the sale the next day you can go back (with your receipt) and claim the difference!!!!!
...“Did you see the new Gap ad last night?”. My dancing teacher loved them and many of our jazz numbers had an obvious Gap influence. My first contact with the shop itself was when in Leicester - at this point there weren’t any northern branches near me. After visiting my sister at uni we went shopping and came across a little branch, in the Shires I think. Since these were the days when the height of fashion was being seen with a ... ...new to me) branch of Gap and popped in. My first impressions were that it was a nice normal shop, similar to Mango or H&M in its layout. At the door was a security guard wearing a futuristic style headset. I thought this was just because she was security, but soon found most of the staff to be decked out in these. The shop was split into 3 sections – Menswear, Womenswear and Kids. Bypassing mens I peeped into the childrens section since I have ...

Advantages: Quality clothes which endure wash after wash Disadvantages: Clothes may seem expensive to some
...had not really bothered about Gap - l simply used the store in Belfast as a short cut into the CastleCourt shopping centre. One-day l decided ld stop and take a look. The Belfast Store is extremely busy and crams a lot into a small space - women’s wear, men’s wear and junior sizes. A separate store exists for babies and toddlers. (I must emphasis that this is only the case in the Belfast Store - other stores have everything under one ... ...to quality. I find Gap clothes to have that edge over others. They wash well, keep their shape and endure well!
The style (for women anyway!) is mostly casual - with their hooded sweatshirts, jeans, tee shirts and baseball caps. I bought a pair of Gap jeans on Friday and l must say that l have been asked if they are diesel jeans. They are really soft and comfortable.
Gap sizing tends to be on the large size, so you are advised to ensure you try ...

Advantages: Good clothes, something for everyone Disadvantages: nothing for really going out
I love Gap it's magical. They really are a no fuss store, any Gap I have entered has been relaxed and helpful and their clothes are great. The style could really be described as happy, it almost seems like they want you to enjoy wearing their clothes. They also suit an amazingly diverse crowd of people. Nothing they do is resricted to one colour, it makes shopping for basics easy. I have many friends who have found a jumper that suits them and returned ... ...sizes- I have found that Gap deals with both quite subtly. Their sizing system however may present a problem, it's meant to be American and to get your american size you should take four away from you original size- personally I would use this as a guide only as, right now I am wearing size two trousers and I am not a six.
People who are short or have problems finding smaller clothes might want to try Gap Kids, for things like shorts and combat ...

Advantages: excellent clothes, colours, great customer service, good storelayout Disadvantages: prices are often high, American pricing can be difficult to translate into english sizing
GAP is an excellent store. The customer service is unbeatable, I have never been treated as good in any other store as I am every time I go into GAP. They sense you can't understand the American size tags, and they rush to your aid. I am made to feel like a valuable customer. Which can make the painful sting inflicted by the price tags more bearable!
I have never left the store empty handed nor unhappy.
GAPs zany TV adverts are quite famous, and ... ...almost trademark to GAP!
GAP brings an American flare to fashion in the UK. This is clear the first time you go into a store and try and find something in your size. America work on a scale that starts at 1. Some of the cothes have UK sizes printed too, and I feel a bit of consistency with the printed sizes would definitely benefit and indeed encourage customers to try and to buy.
However, the staff are keen to help you translate the sizes. The ...

Advantages: helpful staff, good selection of urban styles Disadvantages: items expensive before reduced
...The overall prices in GAP are a little excessive, but the sales are better than those in any other store. I recently bought some jeans for £12 and a three quarter length turquoise top for juzt £4!! Amazing! I tend to wait before I buy things now, because I know how good the sales are. The staff are about as helpful as you can get without being annoying, and the stores are almost always in spit spot condition. A truely great store! ...

Advantages: Good quality, good style, good prices Disadvantages: short and wide
Gap is probably my favourite clothes shop. You always know, if you decide to wander into one of the many nearby Gapshops, that there will be cheap, good quality, nice looking assistants...woops, make that clothes, for you to buy. Seriously, I don't think I have ever paid full price for anything at Gap - why would I? Half the shop is a sale rail. I'm not complaining though.
The Clothes
Gap sells pretty much everything. Tops, Jackets, trousers, jeans, male and female, little accessories, the legendary khakis.....pretty much everything but shoes. I tend to either buy t-shirts or trousers from Gap, and they are always good quality and wash well. The only thing I have noticed about Gap tops is that they seem to be short and wide - though I believe this is because Americans are short and fat. I dunno.

Advantages: excellent stores Disadvantages: to pricey
I think Gapshops are brilliant for quality and if you save up it will be well worth the extra money you may have had to pay. I went to the Trafford Centre and they had a really good Gap store and although, the items are quite expensive, they looked very good on display, tempting enough to go in and have a look.
I bought a blue hooded Gap top which was for £40, it was nicely fitted and was nice and warm. The range was so impressive, even though I wanted to buy more items I had to stop myself as money was running out. I bought my younger cousin Gap cap, which was really nice, and although he wasn’t there I think he will like it.
The after sales service was really good and I was informed that as long as I kept my receipt the good could be returned.
There was a lot for me to chose from so that was good. How can you not ...

I am always attracted to the gapshops, I just can’t help myself, whether it be I’m shopping for myself or my cousin. I always end up buying something from the store. I like buying jeans from their as I like the way they are cut, and they usually last a long time. The store usually is split into two sections, whereby they have an adult department and children’s one.
I always think they have a more men’s range than a woman’s, or that maybe me, because I feel there is not enough to chose from. Gap clothes are not cheap by any means, but I think they are well worth the price as you can tell the are quality.
I recently purchased a red gap hooded top, and embroided jeans for my little cousin, and you can tell they are quality, and because they knew it was a gift, they even wrapped it up for me which was ...
