Mind the Gap!

Advantages Easy, conveniant
Disadvantages American
I hate going into Gap on a saturday. Gap has a childrens department, which means you have to content with crying kids, and mums with prams (am I the only one who noticed that some people think that having a pram gives them a god given right to push you out of the way: hard) Anyway, I digress. Now I work full time (I hate having a summer job) the only chance i got to go shopping was on a Saturday, until I discovered shopping online: enter Gap Online.
On first entering the site I was really impressed. It seemed really fresh and uncluttered, just like the high street store. Crisp white background with the immediately identifiable gap logo. It was well laid out, and the pictures were really clear. Straight away I saw a skirt that I liked, so i clicked the link only to find that it was priced in dollars; all the clothes on Gap.com are priced in dollars, and they do not provide a conversion calculator (this is a service many American sites do provide) I really liked the skirt, and the site though so I carried on unperturbed. All of the departments are clearly labelled as are the sub categories within them (Guy looking for a tanktop? just go to the guys tanktop section!) They also have a sale section with some really good bargains in it (capri jeans for $9.99: thats about 6 quid!) Perhaps the thing that I was most impressed with is the link they have under each of their models called "get the look". If you like a top a model is wearing then you don't have to scroll for hours through all of the tops, you just click "get the look" and it tells you exactly what (and how) the model is wearing. they also clearly tell you the measurements of each garment and what it ismade of, which I liked. (so many times I thought I was buying cotton tops only to receive lycra because I didn't read the small print: not so with Gap.com)
When you go to order an item they have a "ship to" section, which I think is a nice touch. It makes it especially conveniant if you are buying a gift. However, the shipping costs are quite expensive, and I have never brought anything for myself because it seems to difficult to get stuff sent to the UK. If though, like me, you have friends in the states and you are looking to sent them a present (christmas, birthday, whatever) then I would try Gap.com. I sent a guy friend a shirt from the sale section which only cost me $6: in fact the shipping cost more! They gift boxed it and it arrived in time (despite the fact I only remembered it was his birthday a few days before the event) It doesn't take to long to fill out all the forms either! If you aren't "blessed" with American aquantences, then I would say that Gap.com is a really well laid out site, and perfect for window shopping, but it would be quicker, easier, and cheaper to get of your bum and go to the store! (even if you do have to fight your way through!)
Buy the way, if Gap has a UK based site which makes this review null and void then I apoligise, but I have searched for it and haven't managed to find one, so let me know!
