Combining food with flowers
Review of Ornamental Kitchen Garden - Geoff Hamilton by
galls
Advantages: great idea
Disadvantages: needs planning
Geoff Hamilton was a brillant Television Gardener and Writer.
In the series "Ornamental Kitchen Garden" he grows flowers and produce such as vegetables together.
This is a great idea, especially if you have a small garden or allotment.
As a Presenter, Geoff gets stuck in and does all the jobs himself, including the messy ones!!
Geoff was known for giving great money saving ideas, such as his Plant carry cot. This was the empty frozen food hamper ... ...The stuck in the mud B.B.C. should show all Geoff Hamilton's Programmes again, Especially at peak times such as 7p.m. on a Friday evening.
Geoff's memory lives on in his programmes and books as well in our Hearts!!
There will never be another TV gardener in the same league as Geoff Hamilton.
Alan Titchmarsh forget it ! ...

Gardenex
Advantages: Explains how nature works in the garden
Disadvantages: A liitle pricey
...look no further than The Living Garden by the late Geoff Hamilton.
It accompanies the BBC tv series of the same name.
The front cover is delightful with ladybirds , butterflies and birds all shown along with Geoff and a wildlife pond on the back .Indeed the cover just about describes the aim and reasoning behind the book .
It is advertised as a practical guide to gardening the natural way and that is excatly what this book is .
It tells you how ... ...many other typical gardening books .
This book shows you what brings your garden to life . It goes into detail about the engine room of any garden - the soil . It shows what makes the soil come alive and how you can use it to your advantage in your own garden.
The book also gives you the lowdown on all the soil creatures , bacteria and micro-organisms in the soil ans explains how to help your soil and yield by adding organic matter.
The final ...

Collins Tree Guide (Paperback)
Review of Collins Tree Guide (Collins) - Owen Johnson by
wholefruit
Advantages: Accurate Descriptions and Illustrations
Disadvantages: Small text
...and Europe
What is it?
Collins Tree Guide is a book that describes over 1500 trees. This is the largest single-volume ever included in a field guide. The book has a black cover with white and gold text with a solitary tree illustrated in the centre of the cover. The book is stunning and feels like a prized possession in your hand. The cover is very well designed but we all know the saying, never judge a book by the cover!
Inside the book ... ...I have never found a Collins Guide that has poor illustrations and this book is no exception. The Illustrations are very accurate and every species is portrayed in fine detail. Seasonal changes are considered along with flowers and fruit. (N.B. in botanical terms fruit refers to the seed). Summary
I think it fair to say that this is a very comprehensive guide to the trees of Britain and Ireland. The author acknowledges that not all trees could ...
