(+) Cheap compared to standalone, removes the need for seperate sat nav (-) No post code only search but this can be resolved with adding a house number of any house
(+) Large clear menu for touchscreen. Quick setup to navigate to postcodes. Clear driving instruction. (-) Poor POIs, Lack of route preview. Missing villages. No cam preview found.
Advantages: great selection, good variety Disadvantages: somehow mistitled, mostly traditional stuff
Rough Guide, best known for their budget travel guides, has been steadily expanding in other areas, and has been responsible for quite a few musical "guides" over the years.
This 1998 album, marketed as "Rough Guide to the Music of EasternEurope", does pretty much exactly what is says on the package: provides quite a wide ranging overview of folk and (occasionally) folk-inspired music of EasternEurope. This is an album that pretty much started my liking for "world music" coming from my part of the world, and despite its age it remains a good compilation which really does showcase the variety of what's on offer quite well.
One thing that this "Rough Guide" album needs is perhaps a better definition of what is considered EasternEurope: this is a surprisingly woolly category (I always remember somebody commenting than Poland ...
Advantages: great software, great usability, graphics, features, lots of maps Disadvantages: price, it was not that easy to install
If you plan to travel by car through more than one or two countries within the EU then this is the software for you.
I have recently got a satellite navigator software + pda bundle, but because it was bought in Holland the only map they had was the Dutch map. Not much use for me here in the UK.
I then purchased this Tomtom software and I can say that despite the high price it is well worth the money! The instructions when driving are very clear and the 3D map is very easy to use when driving. The main screen shows you a map of where you are, the roads around you and the route you need to take as well as showing your next 'move', that is, 'turn right', 'go straight', 'turn left', 'take the exit', etc and the name of the next road you will enter.
It also calculates your speed, your estimated time of arrival, how many minutes left ...
Advantages: Detailed, easy to use Disadvantages: Slow (but this could just be my phone)
Nav 6 is the successor to Nav 5 and TomTom Mobile 5 and can be used on a number of Mobiles and PDAs. My review is based on my experience using an MDA Variao 2.
I recently took a trip to Europe on my bike and got a copy of TT Nav 6. Not actually knowing much about where I was didn't give me much confidence but the Vario 2 with the Nav 6 installed was a lifesaver. Map are so detailed and being on the bike meant fuel stops were frequemt but I was able to plan this using the software. The 3D maps were good but I prefer 2D maps as I work a lot with paper maps and charts and it's just what I'm used to.
The colours used were good, each screen was easy oto focus on with a good contrast of colours used. My experience in Europe was limited to planning and frequent checking of my route upon stopping. Since i returned to the UK however I ...
