Advantages keeping track of things while you are running

Disadvantages The band attached to the watch seems fragile

Garmin Forerunner

For a while now I am busy with running and wanted to know my speed, distance and information on the time, so to have a better good schedule. After much searching on the Internet, I walked into a shop where they had a number of models to view. And I've finally went for the Garmin Forerunner 405 with GPS, something that appealed to me.

The Garmin Forerunner 405 has a stylish appearance. It has line that goes from gray to black and one chrome ring around to highlight the display. Furthermore on the right side of the watch there are 2 controls. You can operate him in a slightly special way with the chrome ring and the two side buttons. By turning the ring with your fingers you can adjust things. It reminded me of the iPod shuffle. Operating is quite easy and the features are clear.

It records the speed, distance and location and can show me the information about my goals and training method. All this is stored and can be read later on. The GPS receiver needs about one minute to make contact. Everything is user friendly and you have a feature called Virtual Partner where you can compete with the watch! But annoyingly you can never win..

To get the data from the watch you need to install the included software first. When I finish training I read the data on the PC. The connection is made via a USB receiver that I've plugged into the computer. I get the data from the watch to analyze. There is also a possibility to connect to a Garmin website and to share your data and routes with other users of this brand. This I have not participated and can therefore give no opinion on it. The performances are easily analyzed by the Garmin Training Center software and I experienced no problems.

Not all is perfect. The chrome ring starts to damage and perhaps the beginning of worse. The band attached to the watch seems fragile but so far no problems fortunately. I had a problem with a GPS signal but after a simple update it disappeared.

Despite some small flaws this tiny watch is really good. I have become more fanatic in achieving goals now I have them visually. I'm happy with the available data and the help this watch gives me to keep me on track!

Summary: perfect watch for runners
