Satisfactory

Big disappointment, I%u2019ve had Garmin products before so thought I would stick with a brand I knew. I did a lot of online research, their website, their distributors websites and catalogues, forums, reviews etc.. Was convinced by the product info that the 276c or 278 would easily allow me to transfer charts from my PC to the Garmin. This was pretty key to me as I knew they had small screens compared to other models. What the blurb doesn%u2019t tell you is you need to spend loads more for it to work. The bill - over £800 in the end and that%u2019s with discount on the unit. I%u2019ve also seen product information that says it has an audio jack output, it doesn%u2019t, it has a Garmin multi-pin plug that won%u2019t fit your headphones, cassette accessory or any of your other standard jack plugs. So beware of Garmin product information, don%u2019t expect it to %u2018do what it says on the tin%u2019!

Not for me

I've used this unit (GPSMAP 276C) at sea and on land and it simply cannot hold on to a satellite fix long enough to be of any meaningful use.

It doesn't do what Garmin say - so not pleased. Good that it shows what accuracy it works at but bad that the accuracy is poor. Don't rely on this for coastal work or you'll hit the rocks! Also you don't see accuracy when in the chart mode so you don't know how near you are as accuracy changes with position.
