The GARMIN GPS 35 TracPak is a complete GPS receiver and embedded antenna designed for a ... more
broad spectrum of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) system applications. Based on the proven technology found in other GARMIN 12 channel GPS receivers, the GPS 35 will track up to twelve satellites at a time while providing one-second navigation updates and low power consumption. Its far-reaching capability meets the sensitivity requirements of land navigation as well as the dynamics requirements of high-performance aircraft. The GPS 35 TracPak design utilizes the latest technology and high-level circuit integration to achieve superior performance while minimizing space and power requirements. Utilizing GARMIN's own proprietary chipset, all critical components of the system including the RF/IF receiver hardware and the digital baseband are designed and manufactured by GARMIN to ensure outstanding quality and capability. The GPS 35 TracPak is housed in a black, water-resistant case and designed to withstand ruggedoperating conditions. While the GPS 35 TracPak is designed as a "plug 'n play" GPS solution, the minimum system must provide a source of power and a clear view of the GPS satellites. The system may communicate with the GPS 35 via two RS-232 compatible bi-directional communication channels. Internal memory backup allows the GPS 35 to retain critical data such as satellite orbital parameters, last position, date, and time. Version: Attached 10 foot power/data cable with female DB-9 serial connection, ready to attach to your PC. Additional 8 foot powercable extension from the DB-9 connector terminates in a cigarette lighter plug for easy application of power supply voltage between 6 and 40 VDC for the GPS. Asynchronous serial data interface via a single serial port with true RS-232 voltage level output.

(+) Cheap compared to standalone, removes the need for seperate sat nav (-) No post code only search but this can be resolved with adding a house number of any house
(+) Large clear menu for touchscreen. Quick setup to navigate to postcodes. Clear driving instruction. (-) Poor POIs, Lack of route preview. Missing villages. No cam preview found.
Advantages: Small, Voice Directions, 3D graphics Disadvantages: nothing
Garmin are a relatively new company when it comes to GPS (Global Positioning Systems), yet with this product the seem set to face up to competitors TomTom and the like.
What is it?
In a nutshell, this is a microSD (memory card) that slots in to your Windows Mobile, Palm, or Symbian phone; which in turn gives you a GPS navigation system at your fingertips. You need never get lost again - wherever you are in Europe. It also provides coverage where you wouldn't have normal phone signal - which means you have directions when you need them the most. In fact, you can even check for traffic, weather & CCTV cameras.
The card itself is tiny, yet provides state-of-the-art 3D graphics on your handset. It makes TomToms sound pointless and means your car will never get broken in to for your sat ...

Excellent software, Installed on my Nokia E71,
Key points:
GoodTraffic updates, Speed camera databases as free download, Quick route planning and excellent routes taken
Bad points: no post code only search but just add any property number
Installation is easy enough, the manual is very good and informative so dont worry about being non technical, and if you are technical you wont need the manual
More in depth review of the interface:
The main screen has 2 main options, "where to" & "view map" the first option takes you into a second menu screen here are the main ones but not the only options
Home - This takes you to your home address entered into the settings menu
Addresses - This menu lets you enter by country/city then further into post code and house number.
Points of interest - If you are new to sat nav this allows option ...
Advantages: Touch-screen, USB, Card-slot, Mapsource compatability Disadvantages: Bad maps, immediate next turn direction, no variable POI proximity,
(if you register your serial number you get 30 days to order a free map update - mine is on order so will redo this review if it fixes the problems). You can also download a Points-Of-Interest (POI) uploader so you can take advantage of all the POI databases out there for TomTom (although they have to be converted to CSV but this was a painless process using free online services). You can also link the device to Garmins mapsource software and this is where it gets interesting.
The device can be set to car/bike or pedestrian mode and since Mapsource can upload waypoints you have a satnav which can also double as a GPS which makes it sort of usable for Geocaching etc. The only problem with this is when you use the zoom functions, it sometimes redraws the map without the POI's.
It also has some other tools such as a currency convertor ...
