...I have been after a Sat Nav with built in European Maops for some time now as I am planning a road trip around Europe later in the year for my honeymoon.
My first instinct was to go for a Tomtom as currently it is the most well known Sat Nav on the market and everyone you ask seems to own/recommend them. However I thought i'd try and save myself a few quid by taking a chance on one of the other manufacturers, and I stumbled upon the Garmin at a good price in Carphone warehouse one day.
The first thing that struck me was at how easy the Garmin was to use - testament to this being an instruction book containing only a few pages which you don't expect when buying gadgets these days! Having owned and used the product considerably over the last 4 weeks I am very impressed, and to me is just as good as a tomtom and am sure it will get me...

Advantages: Literally plug in and go Disadvantages: Expensive, and Garmin has a strange map sale policy
...access to some features.
I was reassured by the world-leader status of Garmin and the fact you could install other maps on the 500Mb of space left on the internal, and didn't think for a moment that getting european maps would be a problem.
Garmin will not sell european maps to customers who live in europe *unless* you buy (more) hardware.
On to the unit in use - generally very good, once we managed to find a location the unit able to guide us there without a hitch, and would recalculate within a few seconds if we missed a turning.
Finding a location isn't the easiest of tasks using the screen as a touch pad though, and the points of interest may not be called the same on the system as you'd expect, i.e. a theme park just north of Toronto isn't shown as Wonderland or its nickname of Canada's Wonderland - its known as Paramount Canada...

Advantages: Excellent product, takes you right to the door! Disadvantages: None yet found!
...appropriate route, and turn by turn voice instructions.
It took me right up to my door, simply saying 'Arriving at Destination' and it has a little flag on the map to show you too!
You can either use post codes, or street search. Both are very easy, and quick. It also quicky locates the nearest fuel garages, shopping centres and restaurants and more!
This little wonder, can navigate all over Europe!
You can change the settings for map view etc.
The price is extremly resonable at £199.99, the cheapest on the market! You really do get more than you pay for, and extra POI software can be loaded from the Garmin website. It can locate speed cameras etc, and I had my first speed alert yesterday! Not that I was speeding of course! : )
I can't recommend this enough to you, it is just simply brilliant!
The best £199.99 I ever spent, and truly...

This is a really great player which is worth getting just for the HDMI output (cable not included) and upscaling ability. I'd been using SCART for years to connect my old DVD player and wasn't prepared for how much better the picture quality was via... more
