Advantages: Takes you to exactly where you want to go Disadvantages: None
After working with a friend for the day who had a Tom Tom sat nav my husband decided that they were great to have and started looking around for a satellite navigation system.
The Tom Tom was a bit out of our price range so my husband and i decided upon the garminstreetpilot. I said it was his new toy but my husband says he really bought it for me as i am planning to go to my aunties later this year and i don't know my way.
Anyway back to the garminstreetpilot we have tested this a couple of times one to my mums and another to our new dentist where we weren't sure where that was and it was excellent the garminstreetpilot took us straight to the front door.
My husband bought this for £199.99 from Halfords and you can update the garminstreetpilot on the internet for free and it recharges in the cigareete lighter in the car as ...
Advantages: easy to set up, easier to understand than an a-z Disadvantages: doesn't pick up on no entry roads or roadworks
I am a typical girl driver who is clueless with directions. I borrowed my friends street pilot to get me to hythe and thought it was amazing. I have since been bought one think they are really good. I am no good at understanding maps and always get lost when driving somewhere new. Since i have had the streetpilot i have manged to get everywhere I want to get to. the screen is small enough not to distract you from your driving and the Instructions it gives you are clear and straightforward. It takes a couple of minutes for it to pick up the sattelite signal but after that I had no problems with it at all. It is very easy to install and use and is far less complicated than trying to read maps. ...
Advantages: Simple to use, convenient, compact Disadvantages: Takes time to lock on signals
What an item. After buying my GarminStreetPilot I3 I was up and running withing minutes. It is an amazing piece of kit.
The support from Garmin has been exceptional and software updates are sent to me when they are available.
The only downside that I can mention is that when not using back-up batteries it does take a little longer to 'lock on' to the satellite signals. However having said that, if that is all that there is to complain about then thats a small disadvantage.
I use my street pilot 7-8 hours a day, 5 days a week. It is unobtrusive, simple to use and easy to update. I also use it more for keeping an eye on my speed. When not actually navigating the display shows what speed you are doing, this can be in MPH or KPH.
All in all, well done garmin ...

Manufacturer's product description
The StreetPilot 2720 is a premium GPS automotive navigator that offers text-to-speech and traffic interface capabilities. In addition to the turn-by-turn voice prompted navigation available in earlier StreetPilot models, the 2720's text-to-speech functionality allows the unit to audibly announce the name of upcoming streets and points of interest (POIs), letting drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. For drivers in congested metropolitan areas, Garmin is offering the GTM 10, an optional FM RDS-TMC traffic receiver that receives digital information (where available) on traffic, road construction, and weather-related tie-ups. The GTM 10 receives data from selected FM broadcast stations in select cities throughout the United States and Europe. This optional feature lets drivers see congested areas via a color-coded map. When connected to the GTM 10, the StreetPilot 2720 uses this data to automatically calculate and suggest alternative routes based on the traffic information. The StreetPilot 2720 also boasts a new WQVGA, color, automotive-grade, sunlight-readable, touchscreen display that automatically adjusts the unit's backlight for optimum viewing in any amount of light. Drivers can view the map in a three-dimensional perspective, or a top-down track-up or north-up view. The StreetPilot 2720 comes preprogrammed with City Navigator North America v7 NT maps - containing detailed road maps throughout the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million POIs - including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions.Garmin has also added the ability for customers to augment the pre-loaded maps with custom POIs from industry-standard CSV files, such as school zones and safety cameras. In addition, a proximity-alert feature is included to optionally warn the driver of upcoming custom POIs.In addition to point-to-point navigation, the StreetPilot 2720 can calculate the most efficient route between multiple destinations - a real time-saver for realtors, sales forces, and errand-runners. Drivers can also tell the unit to avoid specific areas or road segments when calculating a route.
