After working with a friend for the day who had a Tom Tom sat nav my husband decided that they were great to have and started looking around for a satellite navigation system.
The Tom Tom was a bit out of our price range so my husband and i decided upon the garminstreetpilot. I said it was his new toy but my husband says he really bought it for me as i am planning to go to my aunties later this year and i don't know my way.
Anyway back to the garminstreetpilot we have tested this a couple of times one to my mums and another to our new dentist where we weren't sure where that was and it was excellent the garminstreetpilot took us straight to the front door.
My husband bought this for £199.99 from Halfords and you can update the garminstreetpilot on the internet for free and it recharges in the cigareete lighter in the car as ...

I am a typical girl driver who is clueless with directions. I borrowed my friends street pilot to get me to hythe and thought it was amazing. I have since been bought one think they are really good. I am no good at understanding maps and always get lost when driving somewhere new. Since i have had the streetpilot i have manged to get everywhere I want to get to. the screen is small enough not to distract you from your driving and the Instructions it gives you are clear and straightforward. It takes a couple of minutes for it to pick up the sattelite signal but after that I had no problems with it at all. It is very easy to install and use and is far less complicated than trying to read maps. ...

This unit came free with my car, otherwise I would have returned it for a full refund. After having it for less than 2 weeks, the unitcompletely crashed and would not operate (even after using the reset button.) It was replaced under warranty by the dealer, but then my problems really started.
The new unit would not work with the maps that came with the original. It needed an unlock code.
I attempted to get one by calling Garmin support UK (Waited for half an hour and gave up). then tried email support - The responses comming back on how to unlock via theirweb site were rubbish and didn't work. The thrashing of emails went on for a couple of months, and I only got a proper response when I wote to them, and Photocopied the letter to their CEO in the USA!
However to actually get a properl working set of Maps and Unit took 2 ...

The StreetPilot 7200's huge 7-inch touch-screen display means you'll always see where you're going - from anywhere in the vehicle. Designed for larger vehicles such as RVs, semi-trucks, and buses, Garmin's 7000-series are premium automotive units that come preloaded with City Navigator NT detailed maps and display navigation, entertainment, traffic and weather on a grand sunlight-readable display. With the purchase of an optional sensor, the StreetPilot 7200 notifies you of accidents, road construction, and weather-related traffic delays before they are encountered, and then offers an alternate route. This optional traffic management capability makes driving with GPS essential, even if you know where you're going. Traffic is delivered to the 7000 series through the GTM 10, GTM 11 or GXM 30 antenna. Get traffic alerts broadcasted by Clear Channel in select U.S. cities with the GTM 10 or GTM 11 FM TMC traffic receiver. Traffic services accessed with the GXM 30 Smart Antenna require a subscription to XM NavTraffic. View real-time weather conditions with an XM NavTraffic subscription. Find out the local forecast for your route or campsite down the road. Available weather information includes current conditions, city forecasts, and warnings for tornados, thunderstorms, and floods. The StreetPilot 7200 also includes a host of features to keep you entertained during your travels, including an internal MP3 player, XM radio, and audio books. The built-in MP3 player lets users browse music by artist, album, song, or genre. Music can be loaded onto an SD card and is "drag-and-drop" easy - no special software is required. The XM Radio features 150-plus channels of commercial-free music, sports, news, talk, and entertainment. All music or speech files can be emitted over the vehicle's existing speakers, through the StreetPilot's built-in FM wireless transmitter or via the unit's headphone/line-out jack. The entertainment audio is muted when navigation instructions are given. The StreetPilot 7000 series contains all of the features you've come to know and love in a Garmin, including intuitive navigation with automatic route calculation; voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions; 2D or 3D map view; and automatic rerouting if a motorist strays off course. The unit speaks street names, so users will know to "turn right on Main Street." Enter a series of destinations, and the unit will automatically sort them to provide an efficient route. With its POI Loader software, Garmin has also made it possible for customers to augment pre-loaded maps with custom POIs such as school zones and safety cameras. The face of the StreetPilot 7200 only has one button - an on/off switch. The side and back of the unit houses integrated internal speaker, mini USB port, AV input, SD card slot and 3.5 mm audio jack. A wireless infrared alphanumeric remote control that allows easy operation of the device from a distance is standard equipment.
