I bought this product when it first came out and have been impressed with it ever since.
EASE OF USE The main menu has two large buttons "Where to?" and "View Map" these are very easy to use and are quite self explaintory. If you press "Where to?" it asks you the country, you just have to type the first couple of letters and it will send you automatically to the next screen with a list of countries to choose from. Then you select the country (again nice sized buttons, easy to read and press), then you can either type the postcode in or just the town name. Once done, press "done" and it will take you to a further screen with options - then press the large green button entitled "Go!" and you're off.
On the main menu there is a tiny button about 1cm squared of a spanner which takes you to the settings. The button itself is a little difficult to spot, but once you know it's there you'll never need to look for it again! The settings menu though is very easy to use. It has large buttons with clear colour pictures on and easy to read wording. In the settings menu you can change to kilometres, choose the faster or shorter route, select avoidances etc.
There is a "toggle-type" button on the side to change the volume, it's a sort of wheel that you turn up an down. (Apologies for not knowing the correct term!).
The off button is also located at the side, which is easy to access.

I feel that it adds to the ease of use because you can just take off the device, slip it into the carry case and then put the holder into your glove box, while taking the Sat-Nav with you; thus making it very portable.
The cable that goes from the cigarette lighter to the device and then to the ariel that you can attach to your windscreen is a little fiddly to get in the first time you try it but you get used to it. One thing that annoys me though is it can get in your way when you are driving if you don't make sure you tuck it away from your gear box. Something to keep the cables tidy would be handy (I tend to use my passenger if I have one....!).

NAVIGATION The Garmin is quite quick to recalculate a route once you deviate from it. It will also calculate a better route for you if you so choose and can navigate round traffic if you choose that setting.
You can press the next direction and it will show you close up and repeat the direction which can often aid in the naviagtion.
The voice of the Garmin is very clear, however it can sometimes say "turn left/right" when it is just a bend. It also will give you enough warning of a turn and then repeat itself as you are there. This is especially handy on roundabouts as it will tell you a few hundred yards before, then when you are about to enter and then as you are approaching your turn off it will tell you to "exit left".
EXTRA FEATURES I've already mentioned the function that automatically changes the screen colour depending on the light to avoid reflection on the screen. This is a great feature in my opinion as you don't have to do any fiddling if you do get a reflection to sort it as it automatically does it.
The saftey camera feature in my opinion is great. Not only does it tell you when it knows there is a speed camera but it also reminds you of the speed limit. Although this is a great feature it can get annoying because it "dings" whenever you are need the speed limit, even if you are a couple of miles an hour below the speed limit. It also tells you when you are in a mobile saftey camera "zone" where there is not nessecarily a camera I would prefer it if there was a setting where you could just turn off the mobile alerts and keep the stationary ones, but unfortunalty you can only choose to turn them all off or keep them on. You have to remember to update your Garmin regulary so as to keep up with the cameras - something I always forget to do!
It comes with a memory card slot for an SD card of which I got a 1GB one with my purchase. You can store your favourite destinations and it automatically stores your recently found places.
One feature the Garmin has which I like is the pin system. You can choose a pin number that you have to enter in order to use it, so that if it gets stolen it cannot be used. In order to reset it, if you forget the number you can drive to a point that you have selected where it will reset - which is quite clever.... just don't set it at home else if someone does steal it they might be quids in!
You can change the cover on your Garmin but these come at an extra cost.
If you don't wish to navigate anywhere but keep it on for saftey cameras or the map then you can also view your trip information. You can see what speed you are going, your moving and overall average, your maximum speed, how many miles you have travelled etc.
Overall I think that the Garmin is a good buy. It always gets me from A - B, however the constant dinging of the saftery camera alerts can get a little grinding on a long journey.

First off, this was a present for my mum from my dad, but seeing as i drive about to new places more than her, i seem to have used it much more than she has!
first off, opening the pack, it tells you to do the first time installation- to get all the maps and your location sorted.
This takes about 1 minute to do- which seems pretty quick to me although ive never used another sat nav

Using the Garmin is a doddle, simply switch the unit on and select Where to? This brings up a menu from which you can select addresses, POIs (Points of Interest) or favorites. The POI database is extremely extensive and includes full address and telephone information for a number of various businesses and facilities. The graphics are good and probably better than the Tom Tom however it does scroll a lot slower and jerkier than the Tom ... ...the road. The Garmin is probably better suited to GPS novices or people that simply want an easy to use navigator. It is not as customisable as the Tom Tom. For example I trialed the speed camera warning software. This just got extremely annoying. It warns you of every place there could be a mobile speed camera, which turns out to be most roads, and beeps constantly if you drive at 1 mph or more over the limit. ...this review I'm comparing the Garmin to the TomTom300 and TomTom One, which are the 3 products I've used in depth.
All 3 of the above will perform, but on balance I'd probably go for the Garmin. From a style point of view, it may appear a little less sexy than the TomTom products, but where it scores is that it appears to have a slightly better map set and seems to work better in cities when you're surrounded by hi-rise buildings.
It may lack some ... ...the TomTom products outsell the Garmin when both are available, side by side, model for model. However, a couple of local independent dealers have told me that they've now stopped carrying the TomTom stock, unless to special order, as they have had fewer returns due to DOA, and they believe the Garmin technology is sounder - even if some models don't have some of the extra's that TT do.

After my disappointing experience with a Navman ICN720, and from reading various online reports, I was pretty sure I wanted a Garmin, I don't need bluetooth, or an mp3 player, so I bought the C510, it also had the advantage of being £100 cheaper than the Navman too.
First impressions were that the unit doesn't look as impressive as the Navman, and there was no mains charger for the internal battery, not a problem, as the unit will be charged from ... ...that actually works very well.
Switching it on for the first time, the C510 takes about a minute to get a satellite fix, after that, about 25 seconds, instructions are entered via a touch screen, and the whole package works brilliantly, with, gasp! 100% coverage of Northern Ireland! Fantastic!
The map database is superb, having pretty much every hotel, filling station and supermarket in the country. Other neat touches endear the unit to me, like ...

Anyway back to the garmin streetpilot we have tested this a couple of times one to my mums and another to our new dentist where we weren't sure where that was and it was excellent the garmin streetpilot took us straight to the front door.
My husband bought ... ...garmin streetpilot on the internet for free and it recharges in the cigareete lighter in the car as you go along and you stand it on your dash it says to not put it in your view of sight and it tellsyou when to turn and in how many miles.
It also lets you know when there is a speed camera coming up and shows you your speed. You have to put your destination in before you drive as it will not let you if you are driving. You just put in the postal ...
