Yes its one of those things that was on my gadget wish list and I eventually managed to convince my 'then girlfriend to let me get one.
There's just something about having a little gadget in your hand that can pinpoint your location anywhere on the globe, it also makes 'geocaching' which is a kind of online GPS treasure hunt much easier ;-)
So the unit itself - well the feel of it, and this seems to be a trait with garmin products (have a GPS V now), it feels very solidly put together to start with, the buttons on the side which operate the zoom functions and menu selections are quite stiff however this is understandable due to the unit having to meet water resistant standards - I believe it can be submerged up to 1 meter for 30 mins without risk so it should stand up to a drop in a puddle and rain etc.
There is also a nipple (don't laugh) type button used to navigate the menus which are complex at first but I soon got the hang of it.
The screen I found was very good, resolution was clear and there is a good backlight ideal for those dark yomps across the north york moors (not that I would even consider it hehe)
The features on the unit are certainly good enough for navigation on foot and it came with a pclink cable which i could use to transfer waypoint information to and from my pc - believe it is compatible with mapping S/W so overlays can be generated etc.
I would not really depend on the unit for 'in vehicle' use however as it has no turn by turn facility, it does have a basemap database of major towns/cities, I don't believe it's possible to change this (unless garmin have updated the software)
One of the most fun things I used it for was on a flight abroad (check with airline first) where I managed to track our flight across france and down through spain - usually you don't have any idea where you are but it made it much more interesting to try and spot big cities etc.
I won't go through reams of features as this is available on the garmin site but to sum up I would say it is an ideal first GPS and worth the extra bit of cash over the basic e-trex.
