Garmin Nuvi 1340 - Quality Sat Nav 6 of 6 Ciao Users found the following review helpful
Rating from l.grayston 4 Stars ()

Advantages Simple User Interface, Clear & Bright Screen, Lane Assist, Expandable Memory.

Disadvantages Inability to Plan a Route, Tinny Sound (although still understandable)

The Garmin Nuvi 1340 is a very good piece of Satelite Navigation equipment. I previously owned the Nuvi 660 but when the maps became outdated I decided to upgrade for the additional features, rather than purchase new maps. I have to say that in owning my previous Garmin Sat Nav for 2 years, and having no problems whatsoever, I had no hesitation in purchasing anouther Garmin Unit.

What I really like about the 1340 is that the 4.3" screen is very bright and clear. All of the information is very clearly displayed, especially the Lane Assist feature and the Speed Limit of the current road you are driving on. I would say that the Speed Limit feature should not be relied upon entirely, but in most cases it appeared to be accurate.

When using the Search Map feature, I found the touch screen to be mostly responsive, and was a big improvement on my previous model, especially the Zoom feature which was much more smooth.

The Points Of Interest database is extensive, and additional points of interest which aren't included can easily be added to the memory, or via a micro sd card.

If I had to state a negative it would be the quality of the sound, which is not has good as my previous Nuvi. The Text To Speech voice sounds unnatural at times and tinny, this may be because the unit is quite alot slimmer that my previous unit.

Overall, I feel that the unit is very good quality and extremely well priced, especially when compared to other units. I paid less than £100 for my unit from Amazon (my previous unit cost double that two years ago). The display is bright, responsive and very easy to read. The interface is easy to navigate, and additional maps can be purchased in the future. Garmin's 60 Day free map update is very good, and I updated my map really easily. The unit really is simple to use!
