Advantages Advantages Really helpful in guiding you through places you don't know and haven't got a detailed map for.

Disadvantages Disadvantages It can feel a bit like you're being nagged at with the turn left, enter roundabout, turn right etc

The Garmin Nuvi 250w is rather a nice compact little wide screen sat nav. We received ours second hand from my dad when he upgraded, and since we got it, we've used it a fair few times to help us get to and from places. We find the thing a bit of a nag sometimes, even when she's being helpful, so hubby fondly named her Ethel, and it's stuck! ~To Program~ In order to tell the Ethel where to take you, you absolutely definitely need the full post code! This is a must because with only a partial postcode, you'll end up in the wrong place, and believe me if you're in a town with a one way system ... more

Advantages Advantages gets me where i want to be

    Disadvantages Disadvantages a little quiet

Satanic Navigation systems have become a common everyday item for many people who drive on a regular basis, but as with anything else technological there are hundreds on the market and a bewildering array of options to choose from. Luckily for me I bypassed this confusion by winning a satnav in a raffle at work last Christmas, so after 12 months of near constant use it was time to review the unit. I have the Garmin Nuvi 250, Garmin have a well established reputation for making good quality GPS receivers and many of my military and outdoor activity loving friends have them for use when hiking ... more

Advantages Advantages Helps you find your way (unless you are me)

Disadvantages Disadvantages The voice can get annoying

I've had one of these Garmin Nuvi sat navs for quite a few years now. It doesn't get used too much but has been used enough over the years for me to get really fed of of the ladies voice that gives the instructions. These can be picked up for about £20 second hand these days as technology is getting more advanced so this is an older model which probably isn't like the all singing all dancing ones you can buy new now, plus cars have them built in now too. I feel I am quite good with directions and having been to a place once can easily find my way back there again. This has been used when in a ... more

Advantages Advantages So simple to use.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Easy target for thieves.

... Garmin was one of the GPS devices I looked at when deciding which sat nav to go for. I actually went for the TomTom. As I compared several models I feel I am qualified to write a review on this Sat Nav. Garmin is well known for Satnav, but they also make Mobile phones, Laptops, PDAs, 2 way radios, and even dog tracking systems. They do echo sounders for boats, as well as chartplotters, fishfinders, and even radar sets. They are a "new" company (1989) and have a stong foothold in the navigation market. Garmin call this a personal travel assistant, this is an entry level job, but I tend to ... more

Advantages Advantages So cheap if you can put up fiddling about with waypoints and cycle with audio its great!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Via point favourites unstable can reset route. Design route in map mode after choosing destination

I spent months chewing over my first GPS so I could do bicycle tours, I am a long range chap (5-80 miles) that does not care about calorie burn or heartbeat. I wanted at least full UK coverage of country lanes, with Full European maps it was a bonus. At the time it cost me £89! I turned down brightness to 0%, in night mode so far I have cycled 34 miles and its still a full bar battery. Before this however the battery would drain fast 2 hours maybe to be fair it was designed for car operation. I only use the GPS for audio directions, not mounted on the bike. The charging becomes an issue if you ... more
