Garnet Point Chardonnay-Chenin Blanc
So the ghost and ghouls were out in force halloween Saturday - so were the spirits - hmm - was never one for the white spirits - a nice dark smooth brandy or rum yes, but not what was on offer at this party. Then I spotted a familiar green bottle sitting in the ice barrel !!Picking up the ice-cold bottle I recognised the Chardonnay before me. It was Garnet Point - a great favourite of mine. I enjoyed the bottle so much I treated myself to another on Sunday to go with my roast chicken.
This wine really compliments white meat ; whether they be, as a roast or in a salad.~~~ mixing 2 types of grapes? ~~~
I particularly like this dry wine because of the blend of the Chardonnay with the Chenin Blanc. A chardonnay grape wine brings a full flavour of rich melons, sometimes with a hint of vanilla - The Chenin Blanc contains hints of apple and pineapple. So blending these two together was a genius idea of the Gallo family. The flavours in this wine compliment each other brilliantly well. The crisp, delicate blend is great to drink on its own, with light party snacks (as I did Saturday) or with a white meat roast (as I did Sunday)~~~~ The Producers~~~~
The Gallo family have been producing wines for over 75 years in the California region. They are major producers using many varieties of grapes to suit all palates and occasions.~~~ Packaging~~~
Garnet Point Chardonnay-Chenin Blanc is a crisp, California wine that is presented in a stanard 75cl pale green bottle at 13% vol. Thus allowing the drinker to see the clear, pale colour that reassured me it would be a rather dry, white wine. The bottle displays a bold front label with matching neck label.~~~~ Price~~~~
I picked this bottle up for £4.99 in our local Co-op store but I also know Tesco's and other large stores sell them for roughly the same price. Considering that the average Chardonnay is now between £5 - £8 I thought this was a good price.
~~~~Taste & Smell~~~~
~~~~Conclusion~~~~
Considering the 2 situations in which I have enjoyed this wine over the weekend, I recommend it for all wine lovers to enjoy with food or just on its own. Its price combined with the light, crisp taste that doesn't bring any overpowering oakiness of a heavy Chardonnay makes it a winner.I hope you have been intrigued enough by this review of my experiences of this wine to make a choice as to whether you may buy this - with xmas coming up it would make a lovely bottle to have on the table next to the bubbly.
Merry drinking - just remember to drink responsibly !!!!!thanks for reading
