Advantages Very easy to apply, good long lasting colour
Disadvantages None
As a regular user of hair colorants I wanted to give my opinion on the Garnier range of hair colorants. Having reached an age where I now am the owner of what I like to call my 'platinum highlights!' and having realised that they look more greyer ; than silver decided to cover them up with a nice chocolate brown colour.
Well having seen Davinia tossing her freshly coloured 'Hair by Garnier!' glossy brunette locks around the television screen; I decided to opt for their Nutrisse cream range in Cocoa Dark Brown Permanent colour (No.4) They say it has a 100% grey coverage promise - which seemed right up my street and perfect for my needs.
- The cost and availability -
The cheapest I found this is £3.99 online; however you can also get it at Superdrug for around the £4.89 mark. It sells in most of the high street chemists and stores, ie Wilkinsons, Supersavers, Boots etc - so is easy enough to pick up and they sometimes have offers on too. It does a good range of colours from really light ash blonde to the darkest colour which I is liquorice black with crimson and caramel colours also in between.
~~The Application~~
Like any hair colourant I did the 48 hour skin test, where you take a small amount of hair colourant and put a bit behind your ear to make sure you have no reactions to it. This I duly did and with no reaction went ahead with the full colour.
The application was easy enough (it comes with full instructions), and on a par with other hair colorant applications. You have 2 bottles, one bottle is the developer cream and it is dispensed into the other bottle which is the colour, shake the application bottle, snip off the top and voila you have your colorant ready to apply. It comes with plastic application gloves and having donned them I parted my dry hair and applied the nozzle to the areas where I needed it most. There is enough in the bottle to coat your whole hair and I have done that before too. You then sit and wait for 25 minutes before rinsing out.
The colorant itself smells fruity and smells not at all of chemicals (in my opinion). This in itself is worth the cost of this product.
~~The Conditioner ~~
Once the colour is fully rinsed out, the next step is to use the small conditioner tube that comes with the package - petite it is - but it kicks a powerful punch of a highly concentrated thick consistency cream conditioner. This is enough to gloss up your all of your hair after colouring and leaves a fresh smelling highly glossy glow to your hair. They say it has olive oil in it which I believe as the results are incredibly glossy and shiny.
- The Result -
Superb results every time - and it is true. The colour is not 'blocky' at all, it has variant depths of the chocolate shade meaning it looks more natural than most colorants. It is also leaves your hair glossy and highly hydrated. No straw factor here from this colorant. It had a long lasting result; they say permanent and I have found that to be true. I only now need to retouch up the roots when the regrowth comes through.
