I have been dyeing my hair darker for a few years now, and usually use L’OrealCasting, but occasionally I use Garnier Nutrisse as well, which I find is just as good. This dye also covers grey hair.
In the pack you will find the following items – 1 pair of gloves 1 bottle of developer milk 1 tube of colour cream 1 sachet of after colour conditioner
~~Preparation~~
The first thing you must do is prepare the colour. This is a relatively easy process, which is good, as some hair dyes I have used in the past have had incredibly complex methods of making the dye, involving measuring powder and mixing things up in a saucer! For this one, you simply squeeze the tube of colour cream into the developer milk and shake. The instruction leaflet included is very clear to understand and includes diagrams, so everyone should find this pretty easy to follow.
~~Application~~
You must wear gloves at all times during the preparation and application of the dye, but the gloves supplied are those clear plasticy (if that’s a word!) gloves that make your hands sweat, whereas many other dyes (such as the L’Oreal one) supply good quality latex gloves.
You apply the mixture to dry hair, and then simply leave on for 25 minutes. I don’t like the smell of this dye at all – it is supposed to contain fruit oil, but the smell is quite strong, and sometimes almost gives me a headache. You can see the colour of your hair changing over time – it says in the leaflet that this is supposed to happen and not to worry about it. My natural colour is a dark blonde/mousy brown, and I dye it to be dark brown, and sometimes the dye almost looks black before I wash it out, and it is easy to panic, but after rinsing, the real colour is always the same as on the box, so I would agree not to worry about that!
Once your 25 minutes is up, simply rinse and then apply the sachet of After Colour Conditioner. This comes in a small sachet, and as I have long hair I sometimes find there is not enough to cover all of my hair.
~~Results~~
As I said, with this one the end colour of my hair is always pretty much the same as the colour on the box, and it always looks really shiny after I’ve coloured it – possibly due to the conditioning sachet. If you have ever dyed your hair before you may be familiar with that ‘just dyed’ feel of your hair – it’s hard to describe, but it almost makes your hair feel quite coarse, unfortunately you do get that with this dye, but I find it goes away after the first wash. I normally find that the results last about 8 weeks, and the colour doesn’t fade too much either.
~~Price~~ I usually buy this from Wilkinsons, where it costs around £3.89.
~~Overall Verdict~~
This is a really good dye, which has long lasting results, it is extremely easy to prepare and apply, so great if this is the first time dyeing your hair from home. The only negative points are the cheap gloves and the sickly smell – otherwise, Fantastic!

Advantages: Vibrant colours true to the front illustration. Pleasant smell, doesn’t drip. Long lasting and conditioning. Disadvantages: As it isn’t liquid, it is easy to forget the time while it’s developing.
Advantages: Cheap, Leaves Hair in Good Condition, Goes The Colour It Shows On The Box, Covers Grey. Disadvantages: The Smell Makes Your Eyes Water, Longer Hair Requires More Than One Box.

Review of Garnier Nutrisse Hair Colour
Advantages: Gives great shine to hair, subtle result with light shades, can be divided to 2 colouring sessions Disadvantages: Smell not great, consistency a bit runny for highlights, lightening power not very strong.
