When comparing the monitor to my 3-year-old, 15 inch monitor, you will instantly notice a dramatic improvement in the picture. The colour and contrast are brilliant on this monitor, and more notable the picture is incredibly sharp. This does feel a little easier on your eyes, which maybe just me, but it just makes the PC experience so much better.

To start off on a wrong note, and I apologise, this opinion is in relevance to the monitor in question, but the monitor that I have is the rather larger version, but basically the same.

This monitor, (I may have only had since Christmas) has proven to me that it was certainly worth the replacement of PC. While the main differences are obvious from my CTX 15’ and my Gateway 19’ (Size); the monitor came with a whole load more of advantages that I never thought that I would have gained, and also some disadvantages. On the whole the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, thankfully.
Noticeably this 19-inch monitor is brilliant for games, giving you more to look at when playing. Those who have gaming consoles, like me, may have played it on you upstairs portable TV, and when the get the special chance to play it on the large downstairs, living room TV, you will notice the difference. The point is that you will certainly notice this difference if you had a smaller, older monitor before.
While it may be good in a gaming environment, I can’t say in my everyday use, that it’s any better in an Microsoft Windows environment. I still use the same resolution for Windows, that being 800x600 in 32 bit colour the same as what I used on my 15 inch monitor. Everything has just been stretched; I have gained no more space as a result of the bigger monitor. Perhaps that’s not the fault of the monitor, I think I should be using 1024X768 to gain any advantage. Everything looks so odd, it’s all to small, most web pages are designed in 800X600 so they don’t appear correctly.
Also as the monitor is so big, it needs a very deep desk to be able to house it; I had to re-arrange the whole room to house it.
So this type of monitor has;
Excellent picture qualities, (Sharp, good contrast) Excellent looking monitor (physical) A good range of functions e.g. move picture area and degauss Allows power save Reliable in my experience A 2-year warranty
Problems are;
Very big overall, goes back a long way on desk You may very well end up with the same resolution.
A good overall monitor, very reliable, looks good, excellent picture, but takes up a large amount of desk space.
**CONSIDER; a flat screen if space is a problem in your house/office**
Advantages: Nice picture, shame about the longevity! Disadvantages: When it dies on you after the 12 month warranty - its useless!!!
I bought a Gateway EV-700 monitor just 14 months ago as part of a Gateway 650 Performance system. Whilst the PC system has been excellent, I have been very disappointed with ther monitor's reliability.
The monitor itself gives an excellent picture. The visible screen size of 15.9 inches is great. The panel at the front of the screen to adjust the various screen parameters is quite flexible, and is hidden from view behild a nice spring loaded door. ... ...screen went totally dead. The Gateway technical support people did not want to know when I contacted them. My local Gateway store from whom I bought the PC system basically said "hard luck - but we can supply you with a new monitor at £199.75 including VAT"!!!
I rang several local Computer repair centres, who unanimously told me that regardless of what was wrong, monitors were not repairable!!! They all offered to sell me a new 17 inch monitor at ...

Advantages: VERY reliable, LONG lasting and durable. Disadvantages: it is bulky
...I bought my first Gateway computer in August of '98 with Windows 98, My next one in 2000 (with XP), and the one I have now in 2006 (Vista). I have used my EV700 monitor with all three computers, and I have never had a single problem with it.
The picture is still excellent and even though it is old, it still works great with the NVIDEA package that came with Vista.
The settings panel and power button are very easy to access, as they are right on ... ...THOUGHT I had was that my videos seemed to play too dark, and I was messing around with my windows settings (NVIDEA) because when I googled my problem everyone kept talking about messing with the settings in the driver. However, just for kicks I tried doing it through the settings on the monitor, and all I needed to do was adjust the brightness a little and voila! My movies look great. Had the buttons not been so accessible, I may never have even ...

Advantages: Good Picture Quality Disadvantages: Price
...I have been using this Gateway EV700(CRT) monitor for some time now and i still have to find a disadvantage of this lovel product. It has an excellent 17" display (view able 15.9"). This product is really easy to use. Most of the times if you have to change the display settings of a monitor, you quite have to mess with your mind but not with this one. It has a menu that has every option in it and is very easy to understand and operate. This menu ... ...of the monitor. It's not too heavy so you can move it any time and any where plus due to its special design it doesn't occupy too much space on your computer desk. You can move it vertically or horizontally. The casing is hard as a rock, and despite of getting hammered by me plenty of times, it is still in good shape. It is probably the best model by Gateway. The Dot pitch is .28mm, which is very good. The image quality and color fidelity of this ...

Advantages: retro feel, can get one almost for free Disadvantages: looks and works like an old TV
i still own it. another old friend of mine. i like him (as i much as i would like my old friend) ...but to be honest with you ... if you thinking to get one PAY NOTHING - it's too old to worth anything unless you are despirate for retro feel in your office. GOOD POINTS: 1) despite age it has a good sharp picture / bright colours / easy to install and adjust - generically it's a good monitor, works lovely with my old LexmarkZ55 (print awaht you see ... ...it almost for nothing (car boot sale, local adds, office refurbishment)
3) excellent value if it's in working order and you found it in a skip or been given for nothing BAD POINTS:
1) technically it's out of date: 2) physically it's a like an old TV - big, curved and flick a lot
3) mentally very difficult to get rid off. Are you are looking for one?
OVERVIEW: please try to invest in something more contemporary but if you have no cash to spare ...

Advantages: Picture, controls Disadvantages: Takes up a lot of desk
The Gateway EV700 17" came with my PC. It has a 15.9 inch viewable area.
The picture is good and sharp.
Adjustment is easy and there are a range of features. Open the door at the bottom of the monitor, and press the wheel to review the options. Turn the wheel to select an option and press the wheel to enter that option. Turn the wheel to adjust and press the wheel again to exit that option. It is easy to use.
