Advantages: upgradeable Disadvantages: stock model
...The first thing your are going to do when buying the Gateway is check the manufacturer's warranty. For Gateway, to find out about the warranty on the sys, you have two options. For detailed warranty you will need to contact Gateway's Customer Service department, (1-800-846-2301),and give the serial number for the system, or go to the gateway website (www.gateway.com) and input the serial number in the support link.
This system is completely upgradeable except for the processor, as with most of the Gateway systems. This is a stock model. With 256MG of memory you will need to upgrade unless you don't mind the system running slow. It has a 10GB hard drive, which was more than enough in the early 90's, but for today's standards hard drives start from 20GB and up. The sound is integrated and would be sufficient, but you would be able...

Advantages: Easy to connect. Easy to use. Can even be a FAX with the right set-up Disadvantages: Not the highest definition available
...I have been using this flat-bed scanner for about 18 months with no complaints. It was my first experience of a USB connection, and installation went like a dream. It is a compact design, unlike some of the really cheap ones, although it would be difficult to get any smaller than the latest Canon Canoscan range without your A4 sheet sticking out the sides!
I'm never really that worried about the actual dpi figures quoted by manufacturers, since a high degree of detail is wasted if you then intend to make the file into a jpeg or other compact file format. Also, your printer's dpi figures can be the governing factor on any copies made.
The HP 4100c has easy to use HP software, which allows for trial scans followed by full definition ones if you like what you see. It does a fair job of interpreting what it is looking at and even the OCR...

Advantages: High performance, reliability. Good value-for-money. Disadvantages: None
...I invested in a Gateway Performance 650 system some 4 months ago. I purchased an Epson Perfection 610 scanner, and a HP Deskjet 840C printer separately to get away from the "cheap" packages offered by most of the popular retailers who include only low performance printers and scanners as a part of the deal. I went for a 30Gb hard drive at small incremental cost. The promise of delivery within 7 days was beaten by 2 days! The system was easy to instal, even for a relative novice. Everythiny worked perfectly first time, with no problems to date.
I feel the Gateway machine may not appear on the surface to be amongst the cheapest, but if the price of the cheapo peripherals is taken out of many of the "packages" on offer, the Gateway machine does offer good value for money. The consumers association also rate it as one of the most reliable...

I was looking for a replacement for my old laser jet printer and was delighted to discover I could combine copying and scanning in the same machine.
I put off installing for several days as I thought it would be difficult but it really is plug and... more
Having suddenly started generating a lot of monochrome output I decided to take the pressure off my existing photoprinter - especially as the price per page is in excess of 30p.
I did a bit of research and ended up with this one that fit my needs - I... more
